Not sure why some think that if the bullet isn't in the mag you can't get a second shot. Its a hurry but I can do doubles in skeet with my old single shot 12 and I have gotten doubles on yotes with my ruger #1. That being said I always fill the mag up when I go hunting with a repeater, and the gun I always seemed to need the most shots with held 10...

I hear you....Personally it doesnt' make much of a case for owning a shortmag...not in a savage anyways.

Seriously, bigger mag - I agree; detachable mag - I agree; and a decent set of Iron Sights, like Brownings BLR's sights (Not Marlin's garbage sights). So what if you want to scope it, go right ahead, but it's always nice to have a good set of irons to fall back on.
I seriously agree with this. I like scope on my rifles, but I also like iron sights and its getting really hard lately to find a good rifle with a set of decent irons.
to the OP, I agree as well i think companies need to offer more detach mag options, I personally prefer detach mags. I think there easier and i don't lose them.
saw a Ruger the other day with an 8 round mag......kind of a flimsy looking thing though...basically a piece of nylon slipped over the butt stock...rifle was a #1...
what's the fuss about mag capacity anyway?.....I've never fired more than two shots at a big game animal..usually only one...if you need more than three you WILL have time to reload, trust me....
and Bill...there's nothing stupid about a short mag...they work fine...I don't own one at present but the ones I had were OK.

I wasn't hoping for some "people" to be ignorant and name calling, all I was getting at is I like the Savage rifles and to me it should not cost the company any more to make their mag holg 3 or 4 in a magnum caliber (not just short mag). The Sako mag looks to be about the same size and it holds 4.

My Savage 99C .308 has a 4 round detachable, flush mount magazine. I'm sure if I really wanted to, I could manufacture my own that holds as many rounds a legally possible just by using the stock magazine for this firearm as a pattern.
I'm sure some of you fellows must have enough smarts to be able to make your own as well.....are there any machinists here that might be interested in manufacturing custom magazines for other folks for a nice fee??

Look back through the posts, you'll see the guys wanting the extra rounds, and the mag capacity are from Ontario generally. Not East VS west, just different hunting conditions, and different regs.
Me, I'd prefer a rifle to have a four shot minimum, but I'm used to tube fed lever guns, and at least seven rounds. When I'm hunting, I can take grouse, wolf, coyote, or rabbit, while driving deer, and not carry extra rounds in my pocket.
