Girls are typically better shots than boys. My daughters are very good shots. They were juniors on the Canadian International Muzzleloading Team. They could consistently shoot better than 3" groups at 50m, offhand!!!
BTW, Muzzleloading doesn't have a huge following in North America. However Europe is a different story. The German team has 20 members, junior and senior, and there were 40,000 people signed up competing for those 20 spots.
If kids want to compete in a sport at an international level, shooting is a great place to start. The opportunities are available, it's still a lot of hard work, but the chances of making the team are pretty good. Compare that with trying to get on an international team in say skating, hockey, track, gymnastics, etc, which is exceeding difficult as they are competing with tens of thousands of others.
