My Daughters MG08 project for school

Wow what a great detailed looking replica for History class. I sure these young ladies learned and know what that particular machine-gun means to us Canadian's.

A whole generation of young men from the British Empire were cut down or were horribly wounded with that very gun. I'm guessing that 75% of the 60,000 casualties in one day taken on July1st, 1916 alone, were inflicted by these machine-guns.
I believe over 100 soldiers alone of the Royal NFLD Regiment lay in one gap through their own wire attacking behind and through their own front lines trying to advance because the front lines were clogged with the dead and dying from the 0730 attack. A wire gap(men funneled through a single file point) that was spotted and targeted probably by every MG08 in sight of it on the Germans front line that morning.
This machine-gun is very foreboding for me.

Believe it or not, I'm just north of the GTA. When she came home and said that she had chosen the MG08, I was thrilled.. Even more so when she showed me the pics from class, and the teachers dewat.. (I didn't believe it at first.)

I'm going to write the teacher and let him know how much respect we have for him, and his ability to teach history without the fear of today's society about firearms. While they were a fearsome weapon, and took many lives, there is a value in knowing of them and the impact they made.. and the courage of soldiers to face them.

Like said previously, I am surprised school now-a-days allows anything like that. I am thoroughly impressed though! I remember bringing a deactivated grenade to school in grade 2 for show and tell. Couldn't do that anymore...

It looks great!

It would be cool if we could send that teacher an e-mail or something saying it appears like he's running an awesome history class. Maybe there's some way we could help him out?

Cheers,
-Steve
