Got my Deer Wed. Nov. 9th - beautiful 8 point buck, 720 am. Had seen deer all around, and had located his scape line above the field I was in.

One shot at 50 yards with a 12 gauge sabot slug, one hit through lungs, he ran 50 feet and dropped down. No tracking or anything.

After field dressing and skinning, removing the head and legs, at the butcher he weighed 190 lbs.

Great hunt, great deer!

I have some pics, if someone can post them for me.

As for gear -

I use a Browning BPS 12 ga Pump, with a 26" barrel, and a 5" extended rifled choke tube. I've mounted Williams Firesights on the barrel (over 7 years ago now).

This year I used Winchester Super X BRI 1 ounce Sabot Slug, 2 3/4". I sighted in at the range at 25 and 50 yds so I knew where they were going in my gun/choke tube combo.

This is my third deer, I've missed two before, and analyzed the shots so I made sure I was well sighted in this year, and knew the characteristics of what I was shooting. And guess what - it paid off.

Congrats!
I had a spikehorn walk out with 40 minutes left on Saturday.
30-30 1 shot in the neck and he rolled around for about 30 seconds, I didn't fire a second. He got up and left, we tracked blood trail for about 100 yards, never found him.
I've been hunting for about 10 years and it was the first one, close but no cigar!
I at least got it all on video anyway!
Tim

Well Tim.... I hate to say it but this is the reason that I hate head or neck shots.;)
Head and neck shots are low percentage shots that should be avoided.... and VIDEO DOES NOT MAKE GOOD EATING
I am sorry about your luck though bud... I sure hope you learned from it?
