History: I got my first 1911 5 years ago, a Springfield Armory loaded. After 1500rnds I got tired and sold it. I learned I need an arched mainspring housing for my natural point of aim.
Quickly I started looking at 1911 again, dreaming of the "perfect service pistol".
I bought a used Colt series 80. I was really disappointed with the interior finish and loose controls. Looking at all the gunsmithing it would need, the project was reaching 3000$. Traded it before any modification.
Still dreaming of the "perfect service pistol", I searched for all the top 1911 gunshop. Many seems to agree that Ed Brown's are more reliable than Les Bear, Wilson Combat or NightHawk. Plus Ed Brown models are more to my taste and aren't the most expensive. I contacted their canadian dealer and ordered my custom 1911 in january.
Christmas day: 2691$ and 6 months later I received my dream pistol. It looks exactly as I wished, perfect. The finish and fit is perfect on every part and angle, inside and out. I got three high quality mags for my patience. Great, but I knew greatness ain't built in a day.
At the range:Controls are smooth but positive, trigger is smooth with no take-off. Slide, barrel, barrel pin and bushing are really tight.
I shot only 15 rnd for break-in. My only 5 shot group at 24 meters got 3 inside 3" and 2 (on my fault) opening it to 12". Promising for fixed night sights!
I'm not after range-coolness and prefer to be alone at the range. That day there were 2 guys with their competition Kimber. They seemed impressed when I pulled-out my EdBrown pistol case. We compared our trigger and mine was so better! Kimber double stack with plastic panels and creepy trigger felt like sh*t in my hand after the Ed Brown. I kept it for myself. First cleaning was easy.
This piece of art will be my only 1911 and I'll keep it forever.
Feedback on august 24th: I shot another 185 rnd last week. Accuracy is really great, only 2 rounds to shoot the two 1" plate at 15 meters to finish a combat drill.
