I should have made this post a lot earlier on but some stuff came up.

Thursday nights at SRC and I'm firing away. I chamber one round I just randomly picked out of the box, close the bolt as normal, fire and I hear a sound like "punph!" and the rifle doesn't even move a millimetre. I figure it's a squib, so I call over the range officer and we open the bolt. Light shines from the other end. Okay, alright, it's all good.

Later on, my mother's shooting the rifle and the same thing happens. The same "punph!"

I've had a few more of those 'punph!'s lately. Now... I know it's only .22LR subsonic but even .22LR subsonic 'target' ammo doesn't go 'punph!' like that most of the time, some of which have gone 'cli-punph!' The hangfires are barely noticeable, but sometimes they're distinct enough for me to hear the pin slamming home before the rifle goes off.

Weirdly enough I think I've fired less than 200 rounds of the stuff.

Range officer says it's no big deal with .22LR - when you're paying for centrefire then you tell the makers about it, but I don't know. What are your experiences with Eley .22LR subsonic target ammo? You think I just got a bad lot?

Anyone?

- Dave.

Maybe I just got a bad lot, then, because I use the club rifles, and haven't used the same rifle twice in a row.

- Dave.
Two things to do.
One, check thee rifles out to make sure the action and bolt
are completely clean.
Even Anschutz rifles will misfire sometimes if they have dirty actions.
Second, phone the Eley dealer and tell them!

They have a reputation of accuracy and service.
To say it's no big deal IS a big deal, even for subsonic or practice ammo.

I would bet that it would be because of a dirty action/firing pin. Take the bolt out and try cleaning the firing pin. You could be getting light strikes as well - in which case you would probably have to replace a few springs, etc but that would most likely be fairly hard to do. Might want to put a bit of lubrication oil type stuff in there while you are doing that.

I have used a good amount of both solid and HP ELEY sub sonics, in both bolt and a 10-22 and have never had any kind of a problem. Its very quiet, and super accurate. I had heard though, thru the grapevine net, that there were some reliability issues with a couple of lots. As was suggested, drop them a note(Eley)..or give the rep a call..they should have more info
