I’m at a complete loss with Ellwood Epps. I’ve been patient and understanding the entire way through this debacle and I’ve now got to the point where I’m fully fed up. My rough timeline is below but first for the numbers:
2 restricted transfers.
Nearly 3 months for one and six weeks for the other. The six week transfer has not even started with the CFO.
16 phone calls to Epps, 2 voicemails and two messages left with staff.
5 calls to the CFO transfer line and registration team to check whether Epps has done what they need (Nope)
10 emails to Epps, most ignored.
Background:
Purchased pistol 1 in April.
Had to provide my payment information on three different occasions, called through each time to enquire on the transfer number and found out payment wasn’t written down correct twice. Third time was the charm. No problem.
Waited on the transfer number. Was told that it wasn’t registered in their name yet so I would have to wait for it to be registered to them before it could complete. Fine.
A month goes by. No transfer number.
Emailed three times. Ignored twice. Third time told everything is fine, nothing needed.
Called the shop around 6-8 times. Always got the same response ‘we can’t help, the owner Wes is the only person handling restricted transfers, he’s out of the office and we don’t know when he will be back’.
Purchased Pistol 2 on May 22.
I believe I then spoke to the CFO who informed me that the transfer to Epps had not completed for Pistol 1 as Epps had not responded to their requests to provide the executor details. Despite 10+ emails and calls to Epps, this would have gone on indefinitely without speaking to the CFO.
I call the line again several more times in the coming days to try to reach Wes. I was told 2-3 times to call back on a specific day and hour when he was expected to be in with no luck. Asked to leave messages, they never reached him.
Finally I get through and Wes is in the store. I explain to him the situation that I need two transfer numbers and the executor details to the CFO for pistol one. He says this is typical because they only recently received both pistols and he would speak to the CFO and get me a transfer number. Given a resolution was nearly here, I didn’t even bother pointing out that I’d purchased pistol one a month prior and saw pistol 2 for sale at Epps many months before buying it.
For reference, I transferred a pistol to a business two weeks ago and it took three hours.
I receive a call back from Wes the next day saying that it has been cleared up with the CFO and giving me my transfer numbers. I ask him if they’ve provided the executor details for pistol 2 as well because I didn’t want to wait the six weeks that pistol 1 did before it could start. He confirmed that they did and provided me his email so that I could reach him.
After 18 days waiting for the transfers, I called the CFO to check. They did not receive the executor details for pistol 2, despite Wes’s assurances. The transfer could not start until they received this.
Many more calls, couldn’t get to Wes. Two voicemails, never returned. Another message left with staff, never reached him.
Emailed him with exactly what he needed to do. Ignored.
Emailed him a week later asking to not let the second pistol also reach six weeks waiting on Epps before the CFO could start work on the transfer like pistol one.
Six days later I receive a reply saying he’s been away and wondering if this had been resolved. This felt strange as at this point, I’ve been told by his staff on a dozen phone calls that no one can do these other than him.
Checked with the CFO on their behalf- they hadn’t done anything. Responded to Wes same day confirming nothing had been done and to please action this and let me know. Ignored.
Chased a few days later. Ignored.
At this point, pistol one has from April has still not transferred. Spoke to both the CFO and the transfer team again. Pistol 2 is still awaiting the executor details (Wes previously confirmed to me that Epps have these details readily available.) I asked about pistol one and was told that the transfer was underway, there were few details on file but it seems to be with Epps. This was news to me and I’m not sure what they need to do but given the rest of the experience and that we’re nearing the three month mark for this transfer, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s sitting with them indefinitely for something that I have no line of sight over.
Chased another week later, highlighting that this has now been waiting 5 weeks to start, nearly matching pistol 1’s time of 6 weeks and hasn’t even been actioned. I’ve spent hours and hours with the CFO and Epps to get this complete and they can’t spend five minutes to fix this. Calls, emails, voicemails, messages. No dice. Explain pistol 1 transfer potentially being with them and asking him to look into it.
Receive a one line response yesterday asking for my number, no updates or solutions. I emailed him my same number that I left in multiple ignored voicemails and messages left with staff and implored him to call me.
That was yesterday. Who knows how much longer this will go on.
Pistol 1 is nearing three months, took a month to get a transfer number, six weeks for Epps to provide the executors info and according to the CFO registration team may be sitting at Epp’s end for a reason not known to me.
Pistol 2 is coming up to the previous six week record for Epps to provide the executors info to the CFO. The CFO haven’t even been able to start the processing of it yet.
Hours and hours of my time to try to get Wes to do the legal bare minimum needed to get these guns that I paid for months ago transferred over to me. I just want my guns. I thought I could put up with bad service but this just feels like insanity.
