... fell out of the bolt on me at the range today. The 10/22 is new, maybe 300 rounds through it. Investigated why the spent shell did not extract and saw the plunger and the extractor on the shooting bench. The spring was still in the groove. Has this happened to others? Is this common or just chalk it up to &^%$ happens.

never happened to me either throughout thousands of rounds. just a freak occurance. maybe the spring and the plunger that hold the extractor in place were slightly out of place? could a more powerful powder charge cause the extractor to part ways with the bolt?

Happened to me the first day out with my sr22!
Unfortunately I lost my extractor and had to upgrade! Never had a problem since with 5000+ end through her!

Probably a bit of the packing grease still in the bolt extractor groove causing the extractor to hang up and get pushed out as it went back into battery. Disassemble the bolt and blast it really well with brake clean then reassemble and lube and you should never have it happen again.

Mine came apart and I lost mine in my SR-22 when it was new, Ruger's Canadian service place in Quebec sent me parts no charge to fix it but I later replaced it with a VQ Extractor and haven't had a problem since and have put a couple thousand rounds (at least) down range.
