My Falcon scope review

ETA: It would be nice if an optics guru could compare this scope with comparable models from other manufacturers, i.e. Leupold Mk4, Nightforce (do they have a scope this small) etc...

I'm by no means an optics guru, but you could check out my review of the same scope...

The Nightforce 2.5x10 NXS is head a shoulders above the Falcon.
Features like illuminated reticle, etched crosshairs and stellar optics are things that set the Nightforce apart....but at three times the cost.

I think it would be more reasonable to stack it up against the Bushy 4200 and Super Sniper scopes.

I got mine this morning, thanks for the quick service, Mike! Will attempt to mount it and hit the range this weekend.

Mechanically, it seems solid (heavy) and appears to be very well made, optically it looks bright and clear, at least across the room. Haven't been outdoors with it yet. The reticle seems to be a bit reflective.

Will advise later!

But that's the whole point isn't it? Jamie seams to be saying that clarity and brightness are on par with his Leupold MRT 3-9x and it costs over double. Will it be in the same league as the Nightforce? No, but we might be impressed with how well it does compare though.

I just threw those two names out there because of a bit of brain freeze, but optics that I would like to see it compared to would be IOR, Meopta, Leopold VX3 and Mk4's, hell let's throw in the low end Zeiss stuff as well.

Ok the Nightforce is illuminated, you wouldn't really be comparing that part of it, etched crosshairs? I thought these were as well. Stellar optics? Umm...yeah, so how do these "stellar optics" compare to these? They just might do OK.

The Falcon I have doesn't have etched glass.
For the price I believe it is an excellent optic, no doubt.
It may not matter to some, but with respect, I don't think comparing scopes at 100m is fair or realistic of their true potential.
I tried the scope out to and including 500 meters.
I regularly shoot out to 500m and beyond with the three Nightforce scopes I have, and the glass on the Nightforce (and an MRT for that matter) is noticeably clearer and defined at that distance.
As far as 'Stellar' goes, I'd rate the Falcon as good glass, Leupold as very good glass, and Nightforce as the start of 'Stellar' or one notch (slightly) above the Leupold -As always, all subjective, individual views are likely to be different.
At the end of the day, your's or my opinion of something may very well be different than that of the 'guru'.
In any event, I'm looking forward to hearing what you and Lee think of your Falcons:cheers:

ok Review update

this scope has just over 2000rounds threw it and all is well!

I mounted it on a my scope killer the Ruger 10/22 and shot two 550rd bricks of ammo over a two day outing then re mounted it back the my SPR-ish AR and shot it out too 400Meters all is good!!!

OFF TOPIC

what is it with 10/22's that kills scopes, I went thru 2 of those luepold clone's on one of my 10/22's.

crosshairs went on one and on the other I am not sure, it just started shooting all over the place. 2 feet one way then 2 feet the other way.

How does ANY rimfire kill scopes? I'm not being facetious, i don't normally scope my 22's and when I do it's usually a centerfire scope i've got laying around so I haven't experienced it - but it would never have occured to me that any 22 could kill a scope.

not sure foxer, all I can say is don't go cheap on scopes for rimfires anymore, I have a real luepold 3-9x40mm rifleman scope on mine and have had zero problems since...

maybe it it the amount of shooting that kills it, realistically how many rounds does a person fire per year from a centerfire, maybe 1000 if he is a competitor ??..... some years I have gone thru 10k rounds of .22lr no problem thru 1 or 2 guns.

these falcon scopes look like the real deal though... got to try one soon.

Wow. Well maybe you're onto something with that 'large number of small rounds vs small number of large rounds' thing.

Good to know. I've often thought about a cheap scope for dad's 22, but i guess i'll spend a buck or two more and get something a little better quality.
