My 'Finnish Sniper'

I bought this a last year from another CGN member. A Finn capture 91/30 with a Tikka barrel dated 1943 and a one of a kind (?) scope mount.








It took a while to find rings that would fit but after trying 3 or 4 different one I did find a set that would stay tight. I then found a 'vintage' Weaver scope with a post reticle.




Finally got it out to the range last week. I only plan to shoot cast with it and am pretty happy with the first attempt - a little more tweaking and maybe I can tighten it up a little.

So you got that one! I recall it.

I really wondered who did that...was it the Finns?

The seller picked it out of a shipment that came from Finland or at least from a shipment of surplus as I recall.

How's the bore?

I don't collect Finnish rifles but I'm hoping if someone more knowledgeable can chime in about it. The Finns made all sorts of field snipers didn't they?
 
It might be a Finnish bubba.

I have friends in Finland who said they have made lots of bubba rifles from surplus, for hunting (they were much cheaper than a modern Tikka) then sold them back to dealers, who presumably exported them as "authentic."
 
Early type scope WW1 or Post-WW1 commercial scope vintage, rings are a lot more modern with what appears to be hex screws. Mount's patina does not match rest of rifle also. That one looks a bit suspect to me.

^^^I guess you missed it when the op said he put the scope and rings on it.
 
Yes, I did not read far enough, but I was not alone in assuming he was asking if it was a real sniper. Mount still looks mismatched to the rifle from my experience.

I can't think anyone who would know more about Finnish sniper rifles than Vic.

Still an interesting setup. I wonder if it actually did land in Canada with the mount on it. I've heard plenty of stories from sellers and vendors that were absolute fiction.

Yes - that's what I recall as well - he picked it from the crate that way. The bore on it is pretty good - it shows some wear but still has lots of rifling left and nice and shiny. The trigger is really nice as well.

Authentic or not - I'm still really happy with the way it shoots and the shape it's in.

Of course it looks mismatched, because it is. New rings, vintage Weaver on a finish homemade mount is a mismatch lol. It's still interesting, who knows if it was the fins that made the mount? Seems like the op wasn't asking if it was real, came across as sharing pics of his new rifle.
