Well, I finally managed to down my first 2 big game animals this season.
Sept 17 came and I went out with some friends. That afternoon Jason shot a nice doe just off a lease road in a grazing lease. There also was a buck, another doe and her fawn with it. We gutted it, threw it in my truck and took it to the butcher. Then we came back out and hunted the rest of the day but none of us managed to bag anything.
Jason's Doe

The next morning I decided to walk down the same lease road when I saw a coyote hop out of the ditch and onto the road. He sauntered towards the blood left over from the gut pile (guts were cleaned up over night). I let him get closer and closer, then he stopped quartering towards me and I let my 7mm rem mag go. It hit him behind the shoulder and the bullet exited in front of his rear leg. He tumbled and laid there for 10 seconds, then he got up and ran into the trees. I walked up to where I shot him and found him lying in the trees 10yds away. My first kill with my Tikka T3.
So I continued to walk down the road towards the end to see if there was a deer there, but decided I would take the coyote to the truck before it started really smelling. So I turned around and pulled my phone out to text my buddies I was going back to the truck, and then I looked up and a doe was broadside at 75yds staring at me. I stopped, slowly put my phone in my jacket pocket, brought my rifle down, kneeled down and then shot her. I had nerves and pulled the trigger instead of squeezing so instead on hitting behind her shoulder, I hit in front of it. She jumped up, stumbled and ran across the road into the bush. My heart was pounding and I was so excited. But then 10 seconds later, her fawn came ripping out of the bush. I never saw it until it was too late. I felt terrible. But not much I could do at that point. I texted my buddies and they heard both gunshots and were on their way. I waited for Jason to get there. When he got there we found a bone fragment where I shot her and that was it. No blood at all. Where she ran into the bush he found a piece of meat hanging from a twig. I continued to look for blood just after the meat piece, and Jason walked through the bush looking for her. After about 20 minutes he found her about 75yds into the trees. I was so relieved. He quickly took pics and quartered her and hiked her up to the truck and to the butchers. I came back later that night, the gate was open so I went and got the coyote. Man they stink.

Grizz track 200yds from camp. A couple road hunters spooked it.

The next day Jason managed to connect on a real nice 4x4, and Rob connected on a dry doe at last light. I passed on a few fork horn bucks because Rob and I saw a cranker in the same quarter.
Fast forward to yesterday, I got up early in Grande Prairie and made the drive to our hunting spot to hunt solo. It's my first time hunting whitetails in the rut. After seeing a few does, I wasn't too optimistic about seeing a shooter buck. 20 mins before last light I let a few grunts and doe bleats out. I didn't see anything for 10 mins so I decided to walk back to my truck and walk the pipeline I parked on. Well I turned around and walked 20 yds down the pipeline I was on, and saw this buck coming in hot, nose to the ground. I got on my belly and crawled to a pipeline sign so I could use it at a rest. I could see him still coming, not knowing I was there. There was a small hill in front of me and the buck disappeared behind it. My heart was pounding into my throat and I was so nervous. Next thing I saw was 3 inches of the bucks back as he turned and walked sideways on the hill. I thought "are you kidding me?" So I looked down to grab my grunt tube, and when I grabbed it and looked up, he was staring at me 15 yds away quartering towards me. I quickly dropped the tube and fired my shot. He took off down the middle of the pipeline and I chambered another round. Then he did a somersault 50yds away and that was it. I had my buck! Called the farmer and he took pics and helped me load it into my truck.
