My first 30-06, very promising....

The way a rifle should look! Well done Caramel.. and yes, 30-06 is at least as good as 308... and just as accurate.

I have to admit, i was stuned to see all those Corelokts bunch in that MOA cluster, i always thougt a 30-06 was accurate but less than a 308, i actually think, that this rifle with a load tailored with 155 gr Scenars could give a run for it's money to any of my 308 ( except the Nemesis, this is untouchable in my mind )... JP.

Hey looky... I tout i twa a putty cat... i did... i did twa a putty cat... JP.

The absolute most accurate rifle I have ever owned was an old Parker-Hale 1200 Safari 30-06. I had it topped with a 6x-40 Japanese Bushnell and it could consistently do cloverleafs with factory Hornady interlocks. I should not have sold that rifle. The old odd 6 can hold her own ;)

I can unblushingly admit that I have been a 30-06 fan since the beginning of my shooting career.
I shot my first big game animal with one, and since then I have always had at least one in the safe.
Sometimes I have had several at one time, I believe once it was 7!!

I have had them in every suitable action extant as well. All have rewarded me with positive results.

At present, I have only 2, a Remington 700 SSDM [not an SPS], and a Vanguard S2.
Both will shoot sub-MOA. The Vanguard is relatively new, so I still need to see how it performs over the long term.

But the 700 is an outstanding rifle. I took 25 consecutive 3-shot groups [at 100M] and averaged the group size.
Believe it if you wish, or reject it, but the average was .79"
The truly amazing part was that the groups were shot with 150, 165, 180 and 200 grain bullets. [none were factory ammo]

This is a rifle that one does not sell!! It has shot moose, Elk, Black Bear and muleys. Never shot twice at any animal.

Favorite load is the 180 Partition and enough Norma MRP to reach 2850 fps. [24" barrel]
Second best is the 165 Partition and enough Higginson 47N to reach 2925 fps.

The 30-06 has been my go-to chambering for 50+ years now, and I see no reason to change, despite having plenty
of other fine chamberings to choose from.

Enjoy your 30-06, caramel!!

165 grain Partition group is not typical, but shows what it is capable of

Regards, Eagleye.

I will discover my Swiss along the way but sure am excited to start with this unknown caliber for me... JP.

I am thinking, this rifle is such a good shooter, i may topped with one of my Steiner scope coming in this week... JP.

Have to do my Mea culpa here, yesterday got out to our farm range (100 metres ) and with 155 gr Scenars, 57 gr of R-17 and BR-2, oal 3.310 ( factory lenght ) shot .4 to .7 groups ( 5 shots group) for the 50 rounds, i had reloaded, the 30-06 can be quite precise... JP.

It wasn't the king of competition shooting for a long time just because of its good looks! I am glad you like the rifle and that it shoots so well. Congrats caramel!
