I am the proud owner of a CZ 550 in 375 H&H (my first in this classic old cartridge):) . I have mounted a Leupold vx 111 2.5-8x36 in QD Talleys on her. I don't have any dies yet, so have a couple of boxes of factory stuff to shoot off for now. Have ordered a McMillan stock that I should have by the winter for it as well. The plan is to test it out on elk this fall and hopefully it will be my companion to Kodiak Island in October '07 for a kodiak bear:D.

very good choice on the McMillan stock.

Be careful not to creep up on the leupy, its eye relief is not that long and I'm sure you don't want to get an idiot mark from a 375.

I had a 2.5-8 on my bear banger Bruno 602 in 375, and am in the process of putting a Burris signature series II 1.75-5x32 safari on her to get more eye relief.

Your right, the stock is nice indeed...but the weather is going to be nasty where it will be going and a synthetic is highly recommended. Plus, I'm a big McMillan fan:)

I wouldn't worry too much about the VXIII, on the low power(2.5) it's got well over 4"s of relief....plenty, especially for a little 375 ;)
Crank it right up however and the relief does shrink down to 3-1/2"s(?) getting close to the noggin but certainly enough.

Kodiak Island for Bear:eek: ......I'm jealous, do you need someone to carry anything ? :redface:

Well, the CZ is a little on the heavy side;) Have been saving for this trip for some time now...a little over a year to go:D

I looked into a Guided Hunt on Kodiak quite a few years back...after telling the Wife I'd need to Re-mortgage the House she said I best stick to Black Bears for awhile........:redface:
Should be one Hell of a Trip at any rate, and that Rifle is perfect :cool:
 
I had a Vari X III 2.5-8 on a 602 375 H&H, no problems with eye relief..

I'd replcae the stock as well. Looks iek quite a bit of drop for good scope use.:)

If I'd had THAT stock, I wouldn't have replaced mine. It's much nicer wood than the one on mine.

Good choice on the rifle though...Welcome to the 550 magnum club:D
 
Those Hogs-back stocks do have a lot of drop, the American pattern is bad enough for scope use. Definitely useable though. Brockman has a couple laminate replacements that sure look and feel like the answer. One that I handled had about an inch less drop than the American pattern stock. There is another version with a cheek-piece and steel grip-cap that I've about decided on. I sent an email to Brockman to see if they would make one to specified LOP, plus leave the front swivel off. Apparantly that is not a problem.

I used and liked very much a .375 with a 2.5-8X Leupold when I went to Tanzania last summer - it seems so long ago now! Anyway, the pic of your rifle is gone, so I'm not sure how you have it mounted, but I would keep the ocular even with the cocking piece of the bolt, or inline with the rear bow of the trigger guard. That scope has lots of eye relief at the bottom end of it's power range, and if you can only use up to 6X that's better than getting hit when you have to make a snap shot at 2.5X. If you are gong to hunt those bear tunnels in the grass on Kodiak a snap shot might be all you get, unless you plan hunt the coast.

Sweet looking gun, and great cal. i would'nt think twice about putting a Mcmillan stock on that puppy i love Mcmillan stocks, i have replaced 2 wood stocks with them and have 2 to go they fit me great. Good luck on your trip.
Keep the factory stock in case you ever sell it.
