I loaded these up for my Full Size USP.

New Remington Brass
Federal Primers
Cam-Pro 200gr Plated Truncated Match Bullets

1.21 OAL - seemed to be the norm. for OAL

10 rounds each of : (each load was hand measured on a Hornady Digital Scale)

4gr Bullseye

4.5gr Bullseye

5gr Bullseye

Lee Crimp Die used to finish them of.
P1010768.jpg

Lots of loads using 200gr bullets with 4-4.5gr of Bullseye.
I read this as a 'light' load.

Should I chrony 5 rounds of each? Am I looking for anything in particular when I shoot these besides proper cycling of the slide?
Chime in if you have any thoughts?

I will be loading Cam-pro 230gr FCP Match Bullets with the same loads of Bullseye. I might increase the OAL though. Right/Wrong?

Thanks

(I was using a Lee Single Stage....and I double charged twice. So to all the newbies like me, it is that easy to screw up)

The best way to check your OAL is take the barrel out of your pistol and see if they will drop right into the chamber, as long as they pass this test and fit in the magazine you are good to go.

x2. I would also like to know where you are getting those 200 grain flat points and for how much!

No pistol is the same, so OAL could be totally off. You have to take the barrel out as mentioned above.

it works, but doesnt mean alot. For instance: 1,220'' can chamber in the barrel of both my G21 and 1911. But will only cycle properly in my 1911. Even with a 5,0gn of powder (0,4gn over max) 1,220''OAL round, it wouldn't cycle properly in the glock, altough the OAL is correct according to the barrel only.

To the OP:
I also use bullseye and campro 200gr truncated, but charge varies:
For the 1911: 4,3gn; 1,220''
For the G21: 4,5gn; 1,160''

4,3 @ 1,160'' also works in the glock, when I don't put more than 8 rounds in the mag. I load it to 4,5 just for that first rounds of a full mag. I'm sure with 10/13 pinned mags I would be okay with 4,3.

Thank you for the responses

One item I understood that might be unique to the USP is that the Brass rest on a lip inside the barrel. So the OAL can vary because the the brass always rests in the same place.
As long as your brass is sized properly. :) and a good crimp, but not to tight or it will not hit the lip.
I can see maybe being way to long in your OAL.. or maybe way too short and you have feed-ramp issues.

OAL is more critical for 1911's, glocks, SIG's etc.
Right now I know a shorter OAL will increase the pressure of my loads.

Maybe I should put a call out to the USP experts... where is that Maurice guy :)

It works for my three 45's, sounds like you have a fussy Glock problem.:p

All 45 ACP's headspace on the case mouth, if you overcrip it it is now held in place by the extractor. I've seem more than a few over crimped 45's at the range over the years, most seem to work (mostly 1911's), although I've heard its hard on the extractor. But some are very finicky on OAL, crimp and power factor. some powders really gum up actions, especially when the guns aren't cleaned regularly (why do some people brag about never cleaning their gun then complain when it don't work??).

Last run of .45 we did was 230 grain ball with 4.4grains of tightgroup. No crony data, but through the norc 1911 it shot well and was accurate as all get out. I'f I remember right we did an even 1.200" OAL.

I have been using 5gr trailboss and like stated take barrel out and find the proper oal, they seem to shoot great i am using rnd nose aswell as swc with no probs in cycling.just using drg casts.
