My first African Safari, Sable, Zebra

The rifle was a new Benelli Lopo, with Steiner glass in 300 Win Mag.
The exception was for the Cape Buffalo where I had to use a 375 H&H.

I'm having the local company called African Artistry complete all my taxidermy needs.
They did all of the skinning in the field and cape prep etc.
They will be doing two pedestal mounts, two shoulder mounts, and a zebra flat skin rug.

Thankfully no sickness or illness from this trip. There was Covid precautions at all commercial locations.
I'm also thankful that I was back home before Canada banned travel from South Africa.
Hopefully they will lift that ban, as I'd like to go back next October.

Nice animals... big, but they probably would have fit in the other thread... Hippo and Croc next? Warthog and bush buck perhaps.

When you say “new”, am I correct that there is now a version with the Benelli BEST treatment on barrel and bolt? I’ve seen some pictures where they are more of a gloss black, as opposed to matte black (and chrome bolt).

The black stocked rifles are crio treated barrels with a chrome bolt, but not with the BEST treatment. The BEST treatment is in on the Optifade version which is on order..

OP, I am respectfully envious. I figure by the time my bank account is ready for the Africa trip...I'll be selling some rifles to buy a walker.
Good deal, thanks for the post!

Cool, looking forward to seeing the new offerings in Canada. I’ve seen a a few pictures with the BEST online (also looks to have Lupo written in a different colour), but I must say that the chrome bolt looks nice in person.

Also very interested if the magazine for 6.5Creedmoor; .308win; .243win are sold separately (from what I’ve been able to see, only the initial year release with the longer action calibres have been sold separately?)

Nice kills. Anyone know how zebra tastes? A little like horses?

It’s ok…, it has thick layers of yellow fat which is off putting to most. A buddy of mine who owns a hunting ranch always has Salami’s made from Zebra, apparently one gets approximately 70 big rolls of salami from one zebra. The zebra skin makes an awesome rug.

I'm planning my next trip back to Africa. I will probably do a package like this one.
$10 K US for 8 animals.
