Opinions On DPMS AR's Please?

I've been toying with the idea of buying an AR and a few people I've talked to really liked the DPMS guns. They told me to follow their (DPMS) break in guidelines and I will have no problems. Any thoughts? Im new to this whole "black rifle" scene so dont laugh if I dont know what Im talking about. :D

But what I can tell is the rifle is a flat top model with a 16 inch barrel, with no front site on the barrel, no carry handle, 5 position stock, has a different grip (looks beefier than the other ones on display HAHA SORRY), and he said it had an upgraded bolt, which was silver with some machine marks on it (looked cool), quad rail hand guard, with a smaller quad rail block in front of it. HAHAHA im going to get tore apart. The scope Im looking at buying is an Acog TA31DOC. The scope was badass its not like any other Acog I've seen, it has a lil redot type reticle for quick acquistion and isn't magnified that sits on top of the 4X main sight. The gun is 1200 the scope is 1200 and the surefire foregrip with light was like 500. I was thinking about doing the bare minimum scope and rifle, and getting the surefire later. oh and it comes with 2 30rd mags (US GUN). He mentioned that in Jan 07 I can buy a Surefire sound suppressor from him for 1200 if wanted too, which im debating. HAHAHA

Aside from the toys, is the DPMS rifle a good rifle for a noob such as myself?

Usa Gun!!!! :) This gun is going to be bought and kept in the states. Like many of my NON Canadian guns. For further break down.... Im a dual citizen living in vancouver, with a residence in the states. Currently Im in the states working my 3 jobs.

I would pay more and get more. DPMS.. is maybe a step above Olympia. ON arf.com there seems to be some who own and like them, but lots of others who give them #### reviews. Why not get LMT, Stag or something else?

They use Anchor Harvey forged uppers and forged lowers & Wilson barrels, nothing wrong with any of that stuff.

Most of what I have read, was about QC issues with some of their gear. Hit and miss fits and finish. Sides everybody uses Wilson almost. Personally I dont own one, have shot one a few times and it was fine. But when its not awhole lot more cash to buy something which might be a safer bet..why not spend it?

I've had no issues at all with my DPMS M4. 6 years old and thousands of rounds downrange with it.

With a bipod and my ELCAN I can drill the 500m clanger 4 out of 5 all day long.

i've beat my DPMS AR quite a bit, and it works great.....

is 1200 for an acog in the states supposed to be cheap??? look around ar15.com's buy and sell list for some reference before plunking down all that cash...

About 3 years ago TSE had DPMS M4 complete kits less lower for $899. I stuck it on a Dlask lower and never had one single failure with reloads or factory ammo. It shoots as good as my 20" Colt HBAR. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.......

They are fine for the most part, however they do not stand up to serious high round use based on the following obervations on previously imported guns. This is first hand info.
1.No chrome bore and chamber with tight match chamber, very accurate, not so great on the reliability factor.
2.M4 stocks have not had the end plate/lock ring peened...built in failure, seen it let go while fellow was shooting, easily remedied though.
3.Carrier key screws not staked...huge failure point, however easily fixed.
4.No taper pins on FSB...a pet peeve but not the end of the world.
If DPMS is shipping with chrome 5.56 barrels the remainder of the issues are easy to fix...however a Stag has NONE of the issues and is GTG right out of the box. The Bushy Patrolman's Carbine is also a solid choice...

Mine had taper pins in the FSB. Mine also came with a cromed carrier and the key was staked. The chambers are tight though.....had Hungry mike some fired brass and it was 2thou over SAAMI min spec.

Hitzy, nice to see they are using taper pins, all the rifles I have seen/built has straight pins in place. If Armalite ever starts using taper pins and stakes their M4 stocks, they will be the closest to mil profile of all the civvy guns.

Well I kinda went against everyones opinions and I bought the DPMS because it was there, it was in my face, and an outside military source that was at the store reassured me that he loves his DPMS's and strongly recommends them. So I said screw it and I bought it and the Trijicon. The shop owner (friend) said to follow the break in procedure and I shouldn't have any problems.

Here is a quick pic, ignore my messy desk and mcdicks sauces :d
