hey guys. i'm getting my first AR soon. super excited. i've seen a few different AR multitools around. just wondering which one is best to purchase. is there any other tools/equipment that you guys would recommend to have. thx

Unless you plan on doing a lot of work to the gun, like changing the handguard system multiple times, a bev block and specific armorors tools are likely going to be a waste of money for you. None of them are required for basic maintenance and disassembly. If you have multiple AR's that you do frequent work to then it's worth the cost but if you're only going to own 1 or 2 rifles and change out the barrels or handguards once, then it's probably going to be cheaper to either A) borrow the tools or B) pay a gunsmith the 20 bucks they'll charge to swap handguards and barrel nuts.

I do all of my basic disassembly for maintenance and cleaning with my hands, fingers, and some small dental picks I keep in the cleaning box.

A lot of guys seem to think you need the fancy tools but unless you're going to do significant work to the rifle on a regular basis, a 50 dollar gift card at the gunsmith to have them install all the accessories you want is going to be far cheaper than 100-300 bucks in tools you may or may not ever use.

Spend that money on ammo and enjoy the rifle.

These will save you some headaches for a lot of things gun related and not. They are basically a cross between channel locks pliers and an adjustable wrench. The jaws are always parallel and that are smooth so they don't mar surfaces. I use them as a press for roll pins or handgun sights. The cam system gives about a 10:1 ratio so roll pin just slide in no need to hammer on punches like a maniac. You can put some gorilla tape on them if you worry about the finish on your guns.
