Im waiting for 3 more parcels to arrive so I can start my build and figure out the custom parts as I go. Im not sure on optics or backup sights yet and I may just end up purchasing a 16" 5.56 barrel rather than have a .223wylde cut.

Some parcels arrived today :)

Completed my lower today ... took me about an hour fifteen to do and functions flawless. Im not happy with the ergo grips color so probably gonna swap it for black. Everything went together smoothly except I pulled the trigger group out once cause I thought there was a problem with the disconector at first but after reinstalling it and playing with it a bit now realize it just needs to be broken in.
I did a trigger job prior to assembly and wow my trigger is slick also did the setscrew through the grip screw mod but not gonna worry about setting that untill I break in the trigger.
Assembly of the upper was well 3 pieces, im still searching for a barrel and saving the handguard for last so I can figure which I want for gas block coverage.
I have an issue with the gas tube though, the port is not lining up corectly with the gas block port ... its forward about a 16th towards the pin side of the block, see my other post about this.
So far im liking it.

One thing I was going to say, you probably already know this but when working on your lower make sure you don't pull the trigger with the hammer engaged it could damage the lower.

The other thing if building AR's will be an ongoing thing for you it is sooo worth it to invest in the proper tools to avoid any damage or marring of components.

I finally got off my ass and bought a nice IRWIN 4" vise and mounted it on a small tool bench in my garage. That, with my barrel clamping blocks made it such a pleasure to work, without the stress or worry of damaging things.

My AR15 tools to date:

-4" Vise ($80)
-Barrel Nut Wrench/Multi Tool ($30)
-Barrel Clamping Vise Blocks ($40)
-Roll Pin Punch Set ($25)
-Standard Punch Set ($20)
-Long Shank Flat Blade Screw Driver ($5)
-10oz Ball Peen Hammer ($5)
-Buttstock Wrench ($5)

Edit to add: Torque Wrench, if you're changing barrels you'll need one...

Good Luck,

Thanks, waiting on NEA's 16.5" mid length barrels ... been told eta is 4 weeks. I've got all the tools exception to the bolt lock pin punch which is in transit, but couldn't wait. Everything installed with no markings. Been playing with the disconnect reset breaking it in and it's getting better but still not consistent. Also is it normal for the safety not to engage unless cocked?

Yes

... months later

Decided on a Midwest Industries handguard, ATRS custom barrel, magpul grip and hogue handall slip on instead of the ergo grip. Still waiting for the Battlecomp 1.0 and undecided on the Vortex 1-4 or the Hi-Lux 1-4 scope and the ADR, Vortex or Burris QR mount.

Couldnt wait to try it out any longer so I just got back from the range and it functioned flawlessly and happy with the barrel. Shot 100 rds in 5 shot groups with the exception of 1 10shot speed test for rapid function check and everthing works awesome. :D

Bolt Carrier Group after 100 rds of 55gr 223 UMC

during and after sighting in the mbus sights ... smallest group measured .858.
I was shooting sitting at a table no rests with open sights so im happy with the accuracy and my first AR build. Optics will only improve the accuracy so Ill be shooting less than .500 once I figure out what im using. Sight in was done at 25 meters.
