Great first bear. Trust me after you eat a roast off that bear you wont want to shoot anything bigger! IMO the best tasting ones are 200lbs or less. I know I wont be waiting for a 500lber, the young ones just taste too good!!!!

Oh right, yes of course, because your standard 170gr flat nose load is incapable of bringing down all but the smallest deer, those ftx ttsx leverevolution add at least 2000lb-f of power to a .30-30

Congrads, I like seeing one less bear in the area, IMHO the 30-30 would be a perfect gun for hunting bears from a tree stand, its not a long shot. Can I ask where you shot it? Richer, Marchand,........

very nice bear and rifle. congrats. What are you doing with teh hide? anything? I've been thinking a bear hunt may be in order for myself, but i want a bear rug or blanket and don't know anyone who can make one for me. filling the freezer is always good though!

I did not do anything with the hide, between my amateur skinning skills, the smallish size of the bear, and lack of funds. It just wasn't worth it to turn it into a rug or blanket.

haha my wife specifically forbade me from putting a bear rug or blanket anywhere NEAR our bedroom.
