I'm thinking about getting my first black rifle but I don't know if I want to go .223 or .308 but I definitely like the 10 round LAR mag thing. So, is there a rifle that takes AR mags that can be converted to a .308 upper?

Not .223 and .308, but... you can run a .223 lower with either a 6.8SPC or 300 Blackout upper. You can use the 10-round LAR-15 pistol magazines both .223 and 300 Blackout, and the 10-round XCR 7.62x39 pistol magazines for 6.8SPC (actually holds 11, but we don't talk about that...). ;)

6.8SPC (and certainly 300 Blackout) are a bit more 'exotic', but prices are in-line with .308.

Thanks! That's really great info. Do you have a model in mind? I didn't mention it in my first post but the reason for larger calibre is so I can hunt something bigger with it, so non-restricted is a wish, too.

If you want 10 round mags, non-restricted and a larger bullet than .223 you're pretty much left with the XCR in 6.8 or 7.62x39.

You can wait for the Colt SP 901 rifle to become available. They were apparently shown at SHOT show. Comes in 308 but accepts 223 uppers for calibre conversion.

I'd start off in 223 if I were you--cheaper and easier to shoot:) But if u want unrestricted hunting calibre, your choices are limited as per above.
