My first center fire handgun

I've got quite a few rifles and a couple nice shotguns. Have a 22 High Standard Trophy. It was time to add a center fire handgun to the collection. This is my first and a 1911 which I think is a start in the right direction.

Not the best photo in the world (done with iPhone) but I had to get a couple as some of you put me up to this no good stuff recommending a a Les Baer for my one and only 1911 I plan to have in my collection.

I'm far more into shooting rifles but decided I need a 1911 and a 357 mag revolver.

Les Baer Ultimate Carry Tactical. Feels like it belongs in your hand. Picked it up on the EE un-fired, still in packing grease.



 
My LB hemi is by far the most reliable I own. Don't take that LB down and clean it. Les states that you basically need to fire it till it will not cycle, then you can take down and clean (ie, broken in). Can get to 1500 rounds before you need to clean......have fun getting there.

Wow! Don't think I saw this anywhere in the docs that accompany it. Where did you get this info?
 
It was taken from comments made in person by Les to another buyer (aka here say...). But, it definitely worked. I ended up cleaning it after 1300 rounds or so (just dropped lube on barrel, and rails and ran a patch through at 700 rounds). Would have still kept going in my opinion. VERY tight at first, but after 1K opens up.
I competitively shoot 1911's (about 25k rounds this year and counting) and own about a dozen at present, and this is still the tightest (well, SV is quite tight as well) but most consistent pistol I own. My wife is shooting my Hemi as I type this and is considering a Premier 2.
A very good choice.....very good indeed.

My own OCD would prevent this after 50-100 rds...if I could afford such a beautiful pistol that is! :redface: That is quite the "first centerfire" pistol OP. You have certainly set the bar very high with that Les Baer...{"someday Plinker, don't be envious of the OP, be glad for him...your turn is coming...you may have to sell off some firearms but, your turn is coming".} Gawd help me, OCD and schizophrenia!?:p
 
Did you get that from Briefcase_Wanker? I was a little late to the party with my offer, lucky you.....and lucky me too, because that way I had money for a Stainless King Cobra that came to my attention. Great first pistol, you'll need a big budget for all the rest of the fine pieces you will need to buy to meet your expectations! Congrats.
 
What ever you do, don't put the 'noob' scratch on that beauty!

That would be a durned shame!

Yep! That's the one! Congrats on the King Cobra. Thrilled I made the move on it.
