I picked up this female coyote this morning with my .50 cal Traditions muzzle loader. Range was about forty yards and I was shooting a Hornady SST 300gr saboted bullet over 100gr of Pyrodex. This animal was taken completely as a manner of opportunity, as I was actually going out today just to get out and maybe do some shooting.

Anyways, it's my first predator, and I was pretty happy with getting one without getting all geared up. One thing I did notice as soon as I got near the animal was that, damn....coyotes stink! I mean seriously, they might look cute from a ways off, but I would not cuddle with one. Besides the stink it did seem like a healthy specimen however.

Once I got back home I skinned it out, with some help from my trapper father, and the hide is hanging in my yard, drying from a good washing. I"ll home tan it and get my father to make me a nice coyote skin hat from it.

Cheers!

A few weeks ago I turned down a nice big one with long fluffy hair while I was deer hunting.. Good thing too. I shot one of the deer it was watching an hour later. I thought that there had to be something that had it's attention like that.

I snuck up behind it looking the other way and thought about it. Oh I thought about it...My SSt would have been 160gr lighter than yours though.
