Thanks to Lazerus2000 I decided to go crazy and paint my synthetic stock. I've been waiting to buy a second stock in case I didn't like the way it looked but sometimes you just have to go nuts. So here's the skinny. Krylon Camouflage paint. Started with two coats of black. Used a weed that grows behind my garage...wait, strike that, I spent hours creating a custom stencil for my camo. Placed the stencil (weed) on the black and sprayed a sort of dark OD green. Laid more stencil (weed) and sprayed tan. The green barely shows compared to the black so that may have been a waste of time but I won't really know until I have it out in the sun. The first side came out much less defined than the second side. I didn't do the handguard just in case I didn't like it so now I will be spraying the handguard and some mags.

So here it is.

very nice ;)

when i tried this method, i sprayed brown and olive in wide diagonal stripes, alternating between the two (laz's idea) to cover all traces of primer. then i started with kahki did the first spray over with cedar bough clippings, then a light spray over the same "stencils" with black.... then olive.... then kahki... then i hit it in random places with brown where it needed more diverse colour..... you could use several local vegetations as stencils all on the same stock...... very cool. I'll be doing up one of my M14S-A2 hunter tactical stocks in a few days and i'll post it up

Wow.So thats how its done.Thanks.Looks good,by the way how where the burgers on sunday?Did you let higgins get a bite or two?

the two i had saved for laz while he was out runnin around ended up in Higgins's belly... at least he waited for me to give them to him this time.... last clinic he just woofed em right off the plate on the little table..... 5 burgers in a blink :D ... ah but he's such a good dawg :D :D

The hell hound himself..... official mascot of the Wet Coast M14 Support Group :D

looks good, very cool. seems like the right side got stenciled more than the left

Yup. Left side I took the stencils off after the green spray and put new ones on for the tan. That covered up most of the green. Right side I put fewer stencils on for the green and then just added more stencils for the tan.

I also discovered that the stencils kept blowing away from the force of the spray can so I adjusted for the right side. I will not be allowing people to walk around me when I am at the range.

I am fairly pleased with it however and will probably try not to obsess over the differences. If you could all help me by not pointing it out again I will be less likely to have to repaint the whole stock. :)

This has convinced me that there is merit to keeping the synthetic stock on the Norinco rather than replacing it with a wood.

ya..... and sad too...... my dog higgins, our m14 clinic mascot, shown on pg 1 passed away last year.

the stock painted in this thread was a usgi fiberglass stock but you "might" get similar results painting up a plastic chinese stock.

Oh... didn't realize that wasn't the chinese stock. I kept thinking: 'Wow, that looks really nice for chinese plastic.'
I think I 'might' get good results the same way putting five shots into a six shot cylinder, spinning it, pointing it at my head, and pulling the trigger 'might' not kill me...
Thanks for pointing that out though

hehehe :D
for the chinese plastic stocks, try Plastic cote spray paint primer. the primer will be the all important thing and then a krylon camo type pint can be used to paint the finish..... follow up with a laquer clear coat such as RONA/REVY matte clear. Also, prepping the stock by wiping down thoroughly with a mild alchohol or solvent will remove any grease/oil or factory mold release that may be present on the stock. Enjoy the project and post us up some pics when yer done ;)

i haven't tried painting one yet, but a friend has and he washed her down with a bottle of isopropyl alchohol from the drug store..... there's 2 strengths on the store shelf.... get the stronger one. It's first aid alchohol hehehe but it won't affect the plastic.

General Paint sells a product called plastic primer that is made for these types of surfaces.
First rough up the surface using medium to fine sanding paper.
Then wipe down the plastic with Methyl-Hydrate.
Apply Plastic Primer and allow to dry for 24 hours in room tempeture before re-coating with the finish coat.
ICI & Sherman Williams also sell similar types of products but at $15 a gallon I can't complain ;)

I have this CRAZY urge to paint my M14 stock Fire Engine RED with a Glossy clear coat.... Am i going nuts? I wonder how it would look... (yes i am serious). I must be watching too many 600 yard national matches with custom gun:D:D

What paint do you suggest for a beginner like me? Or if anyone local want to help me? I am always willing to repay your kindness with BEER and RUM!!! XD
