Well I got one !!! I was hunting shot gun in area 90B with some family and friends. I was waiting all year for the week of deer as I just got into the hunting thing back in April when my first hunt was the turkey season and got myself a nice jake last day of the season. I also was out for fall turkey this year when I got myself a nice tom 11" beard with 1" 1/4 spurs. So far i didn't get skunked on any of my hunting seasons. Beginners luck ?? maybe...
So anyways I was out opening day all setup waiting and nothing came around second day something nothing, third day nothing again then was getting worried so i thought maybe we are not in the right spot as it seemed where we were set up the deer where coming out at night so we took a walk around and the field next to us we seen 2 nice big bucks and i would say the one was a 10 point and the other was allot bigger. We stopped as they did not see or hear us and we both laid in the dirt waiting to see if they would come closer to us as they were about 200 yards out. As much I wanted to try to take the shot i did not think it was worth the chance with a long shot like that with my Browning Gold Hunter, it was set up with a rifled barrel with the 3" Sluggers that I only practiced shots at 75 yards so we both held back are shots hoping we would see them again.
The next day my uncle and I set back up where we seen them bucks hoping to see them again but they were a no show but we did have 2 does and a young buck that came in range. I let my uncle take the first shot and took down the buck as I then tired to take a shot at one of the does but it was a miss.
As it was getting close to the end of the season and I have not seen anything the next couple days I just figured that my luck ran out and I was going to be deer-less for this year.
The last day I wanted to try a diffent spot on the land where we were hunting. It was the last day of the shot gun season so in the morning I knew the field I wanted to try but never did see where to set up as I was never back there before. So I walk along the soya bean field in the dark looking for a spot to set up and then came across a old looking stand that was built in a tree. My first thought sweet !! So I got up in the stand and sat there looking into the tree line. Couple hours roll by and nothing so far so I grab my drinking box for something to drink then I look back up and then I see a head pop out with a rack to boot :) No it wasnt one of the monsters I seen before but it was a deer.
At this point he is a good 200 yards out walking straight to wards me and I'm pumped till then he stops...Turns at 150 yards with his side towards me and starts walking towards the other side of the bush so I thought to myself should I wait and see if he comes back my way or take the shot. Well he paused with leaving me a nice chance for a shot so I lined my bead about 8" high as i would figure the slug would drop some. I pulled the trigger and BANG!!! He goes down right in the spot i shot him 150 yards straight from me man was I ever excited. I unloaded my gun got down from the stand and throw one slug into the gun just in case he gets back up as I was not sure where i got him.
I started trotting threw looking on where he went down and nothing. I was like WTF did he take off when i was not looking?? 5 min passes looking I figured I would follow his steps from the bush to where I hit him and success I found him but he was still kicking so I knew what I had to do but unsure how to do it as I did not want him to suffer much longer so I slit his neck and I can say that was also a first for me. Next shot gun season I'm going to pick myself a shot gun with a full rifled barrel with a scope so i cen better place my shots with shooting a further distance.
Well anyways I had a great time and so did my uncle as we both shot are first deer ever and they will not be the last.
Here is some pics of my monster 8 pointer LOL

Good for you. I shot my first deer last year (a doe) and shot my first buck last weekend. The way I see it its never too late to start deer hunting.

I've seen your posts over on reptiles canada, as I'm a reptile person myself . Congrats on the first deer! I got my first as well this year, although only a doe, it was a huge acomplishment for me, Just been too lazy to get any pics up so far

Gotta love the first one always...my first was an 8 pointer taken with my SKS when his snapping a twig woke me up on my stand

While we're on talking about our first deer, I got mine too last week on a hunting trip with a friend from University.

We were on a plot of crown land hear Riding Mountain National Park (not in the park, mind you). My friend was in a treeline on the south end of a field about 250 yards away from me - just after sunset (might as well have been 29 minutes after).

I was lying prone, in some grass along the treeline when I got a small kink in my back, so I sat up and sat on a small stool I had been carrying. I was about to pack it in when I hear a shot ring and a ricochet some 50 yards to my right.

I bring up my Norinco M305 (with a 4x Bushnell scope I bought on clearance from Canadian Tire) and see a doe. It must have been spooked and confused, since I had enough time to get a good shot - clean through and through, right through the lungs. Not a hail Mary shot, 50m through some trees - but I said that one single shot was more exciting than a 300 round IDPA match.

I ran up to it after, and was so juiced up on adrenaline for a moment I forgot what to do when I saw it was still breathing. My friend actually yelled at me to finish the job, and I fell a bit ashamed at myself for not having the humanity and deceny in those 15 seconds to immediatly do what was right.

It wasn't much, but it was a small doe (and tasty to boot).

We pushed bush every day for a week, and I only had 3 chances.

My friend who had been hunting with his Dad for 15 years told me: "If you get a shot, take it - you might not get another one." I'd say he was right.

We had a fry afterwards - and I gained an appreciation for deer heart. Not so much for liver, but the heart was pretty good.
