Well it all started as another beautiful morning in the bush, light winds, a bit of frost, and the sounds of nature made it so enjoyable to be out there. This was my 16th sit this season, was dazed watching the squirrels and chipmunks run around when about 8:15 my buddy radios me and says “There’s one coming your way I couldn’t get a shot” (we hunt the same ridge about 200 yards away) So I stood up and got ready, about 5 minutes go by and sure enough there he his walking straight down the trail that I set up on. He wasn’t worried about anything, came practically running in and stopped 15 yards from my stand head down into the apples , by this time I was already pulled back and in a matter of seconds I let the arrow fly, I had a feeling I hit it a bit high than I should have. I watched him run about 20 yards and stop behind a tree, I didn’t know if it was a lethal hit or not. I waited about 5 minutes and never seen or heard him so thought yea he must have kept running so I dropped my bow and climbed down, went to grab my arrow that was stuck in the ground and looked the direction he went to see him running away. I quickly grabbed my blood soaked arrow and met my bud up at the truck; we went to town to get coffee and then went to where my neighbor was hunting and met him coming out of the bush. He has shot many deer over the years so I wanted his help to get my first one. We gave him about an hour before starting to search; there wasn’t much of a blood trail. As I looked for the next drops of blood my neighbor Jerry points to a bush pile and says to my hunting buddy look over there, well I looked over and there he was no need to look for more blood. He went no more than 40 yards from my stand, after cleaning we see that I was a little high on the shot but also a little far back, went straight through the liver. Not a huge deer but a trophy in my eyes being as it is my very first, I was so pumped. Little 4 pointer, should be some good eating!!
