Hey guys just got up from a night I will never forget. After many dollars spent on equipment, hours spent feeding and setting up and scouting I finally got my first deer. I have been on this property for this season and unfortunately it will be the last as the land owner sold her house and she said just make the best of it. I have have seen many deer on my trail cam but never seem to be there when I am there. Here is the story in a nutshell.
I was sitting in my ground blind and it was starting to get dark and I just finished texting my buddy that I haven't seen anything on my trail cams for a week and good luck at his spot as his has plenty of deer when all of the sudden I see 2 does walk the brush line into my field. They were hung up about 120 yards and were just standing there so I decided to crack out my Primos grunt call. I had it on the deepest setting and let out a couple grunts and a wheeze. I did this for about a minute and they weren't having it so I moved it up to the highest part and busted out a couple of the higher pitched bleeps. They started coming around, one was hesitant but the other was interested. They came across the field and must of smelled the corn and apples too and decided to investigate/eat. The one came in about 35 yards and was looking at me...my buddy always said be patient so you get a better shot.....the doe finally came around to about 12 yard and was looking right at me....oh and during all of this I was shaking trying to compose myself....anyways it finally went broadside and I said to myself, this is it, take the damn shot...whack!!...hit her right in the bread basket and they took off....she went about 120 yards back to the brush line made a huge crash and the rest was history....I apologize for the pic as its not in the wilderness where it was but I have never field dressed a deer before and my buddy was going to help me at home, needless to say I am ecstatic and can't wait to do it again.....oh and didn't expect to be cooking up a couple of inside straps at 12:49am as my midnight snack
