Today marks the day I bought my first firearm. A 226 Equinox. I have been waiting for so long for it to get here and it finally did. I'm totally excited.

It's sitting at TSE right now so unfortunately I can share no pictures. But as soon as all my phonecalls are made and paperwork arrives, I will promptly make my way to the bottom of this pile of .40 S&W I've been sitting on.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Congrats on the purchase of your first firearm :) Very nice choice for a first pistol, you won't be disappointed with the SIG 226.

It's definitely one of my favorite pistols, and everyone I personally know that has shot one loves them.

Congratulations Theory... my first handgun is a P226R.. Istill have it... nice gun... would love to get a hold oo one of those 226 equinox. Let us know how it goes when you make some noise at the range.:D :D :D

Welcome to the cult of Sig! You won't be disappointed... Those that like 'em, like 'em a LOT but those who don't buy a GLOCK!!

Cool! How long did it take you to get it from TSE? I'm assuming they had to put it on order. I'm really thinking of getting the P226 stainless in the .40, probably have to order that too. Somehow I think I can't go wrong with any P226 choice! (it would be my first sig :D )

It would just be a bummer to wait for the firearm...:(

Give us all an update once you got to try it out!!!!

9mikemike, I assume you're talking about my pile of ammo. It's store bought. Wholesale Sports was having a sale (10% off most everything), so I bought a bunch of different rounds to try. I got some UMC LeadLess, Remington UMC, Federal American Eagle, and TSE kicked me a box of WinClean. Not sure about the WinClean, but everything else is 180gr. I'm in Edmonton visiting family for easter weekend right now so I'm gonna try to find some other, lighter grain ammo to see how I like it.

Tatorus, I told TSE I wanted this pistol early December (pre-handgun ban babble). It was only suppposed to take a few weeks, I guess that TSE was having SIG sourcing issues so it took a little longer. It seems they have a new distributor so I doubt that this would be your case should you order one now. Would I order something through TSE again? Absolutely, no question. I got exactly what I wanted with no attitude and for $150-$300 less than I was quoted by other Canadian companies.

TSE is the best.

Makes me sad to have to move back to Edmonton.

We think we have our sourcing sorted out... In fact, if customs hadn't decided thtat they wanted to "look after" our current shipment for two weeks, it would have not even been this long.

We already have an approved export license for our next batch of SIG pistols so they should be in country (barring customs snafu's) in three / four weeks.

So I took my new gun out shooting today. It is still at TSE until I get my reg. + ATT sorted, but was that ever fun.

Before I could shoot it, I had to clean all of the gunk out of it. Seeing as how I know very little about this sort of thing, 1st firearm and all, a staff member at TSE was kind enough to strip it down and show me how to clean it all out (did I ever mention how great this shop is?). Once it was clean, we oiled it, once that was all done, it was time to try it!

I tried three types of ammo, Remington UMC 180gr, American Eagle 180gr, and WinClean 180gr. All of them fed flawlessly. My favorite to shoot would have to have been the American Eagle. it seemed to be the most consistent in terms of recoil and perceivable muzzle flash.

I'm so happy with this pistol. I shoot it as well or better than any pistol I've ever handled. I had concerns about how I was going to like the grips once I started shooting it. Sigforum has many tales of equinox owners who have put factory grips on their guns. Felt fine to me, maybe a touch thick, but comfortable none the less. I'm still hoping my buddy from work can find me some factory 226 grips while he's in Texas this week.

Grips: Nice
Finish: Very Nice
Sights: Unbelievably Nice!

That little green dot on the front sight blade is so cool. It's so easy to see and I'm holding it responsible for the respectable targets and great time I had shooting it. So far, the sights are my favorite part about my gun.

So far everything seems ok, except 2 things. The first being that my grip screws started coming loose after about 100rds. Minor. Tightened them up, no problem in the last 50. Lets hope this doesn't become a chronic thing. Second. I got hit in the face with so much brass it was getting a little unreal (15x just in the face). Now I don't know if this is the pistol ejecting it towards my face, or if it just kept bouncing off the wall into my face but I've never been hit so much in my life. If anyone can offer a little insight, I'd love to hear it. I hope something can be done as that is VERY annoying.

Now I know that everyone wanted pictures of it, and no one wants to share them more than me, but I have to get it home and use the gf's camera to do so. So until the CFC grants me permission to take it home, we'll all have to wait.

.

grip screws: take your girlfriends clear nail polish (she'll be happy to help) and dab some over the screws after you tighten them up. this will keep them from moving, and you will still be able to unscrew them afterward.

brass in face: time to get used to wearing a ball-cap when you shoot. the brim will deflect most of anything that gets thrown or deflected at you. works for me anyway.

congrats on the new toy!

the two aren't really problems....

1. use some loctite for the screws. mild not permanent...
2. most likely it is bouncing off the wall...wear a hat!

Peektures.

Brought it home tonight!

Shot it like 65x this evening. Wore a hat :). I actually had a friend of mine watch while I was shooting to see where the brass was going. Out to the right, off the wall. No complaints. Buttery action. I love it.

In the box.
