Just picked up a Savage Model 10 FCP-K in .308 today :) My first bolt action.

Shot a friend's .223 at the range on the weekend and just had to have one. Anyway, just wanted to share. I'll be putting a Bushnell 3200 10x40 on it. I'm thinking low rings with the base I have on?

Sharp looking rifle. Gotta love those savages. While rings really depend on how big your objective is, I'm sure you can get away with lows to mount a 10x40. You should have plenty of clearance. How much did it set you back?

The 'pretty' changes to some new Savages is a direct result of trying to convince Rem and other conventional rifle customers to try the brand.

Unfortunately, it now has more hurdles to work on.

Easiest way to get the barrel off now is to treat the action like a Rem.

Nice looking gun:). What led you to that model over other models?

Thanks! Honestly, shooting one on the weekend really gave me the itch. I love the trigger on it. I looked at some Rem 700s at the shop as well but the trigger just didn't feel as nice. I couldn't find anything else in this price range with a free floating heavy fluted barrel and muzzle brake. I knew I wanted a rifle with a beavertail fore-end, free floated heavy barrel, muzzle brake and an accu-trigger...this one fit the bill perfectly. Plus, it looks cool :)

I just got the call from Ellwoods this morning my Savage 12 VLP DBM .223 1:7" twist FINALLY came in from the distributor... after 16 full weeks of antagonizing wait :D If anyone has a slight interest in this rifle it looks like they may have ordered in 2 of them cause it says online that they have one in stock (could be mine though). Its listed at a very reasonable price $871.00.

This is my first presicion rifle and my second firearm, I'll post a pic once I have it in my hands, but for now I guess this one will do (forgive me for the cheap MFS ammo, but Im new):

Yes, I noticed the absence of the side safety which I never liked. Put barrel in a proper vise and proper action wrench to remove. The new ###ier Savages eh.

If it were me, I'd remove the muzzle break. You don't need it with a .308, and it'll only end up annoying other shooters.

Not to be an ass but if I'm at a shooting range, I'd expect it to be loud. Muzzle brakes on rifles up to .338 Lapua have never bothered me...

I'm not buying a rifle with a muzzle brake just to take it off so it's not loud!

I might start going back to the ranges, sit right in the middle and fire my braked .300wm with my over max handloads as fast as the range rules allow, just as i see the fudd beside me squeezing the trigger. Boo hoo, loud guns at the range. Gimme a break. Next thing theres going to be people asking for a nothing over .223 range, then guys will want a .270 range, then .308 remington maximum. All this crying is why no range in BC will ever see a red cent from my pocket again. Guns are loud, bigger ones are even louder, brakes are loud, if loud noises scare you stay home and knit.

Very glad you got your rifle. 16 weeks wait and I think you spent about 16 weeks deliberating before ordering, if my memory serves. Nothing wrong with that but get out shooting man! :)
