My first goose

Got my first Canadian goose today! I hit a couple others but they didn't drop!? I was shooting 3 1/2" BB shot. I could hear the hits on the birds but they kept flying. It was steel shot, should I try something larger? The stuff I was shooting was some of the cheaper brands, does the expensive stuff make much difference?

it is all about the right lead to get a head shot.
it will take you some time to master it, they fly fast!

What kinda shells were you using. Was it the fast stuff 1550 FPS? If so it should go threw the birds no problem. Maybe the pellets were passing there the wing feathers.

Yeah, it was the 1550 fps stuff. I had heard that their feathers worked like a suit of armor, but I had no idea. I still had a great time and it's not even that far from my house. Definately looking forward to going out a few more times this year.

What range were you shooting????

Chances are you were missing.

I'm not sure how you could hear the bb's hitting the bird.

Sounds like you were just out of range. Trying for the headshots (ie more lead) will help on the longer shots, but takes some practice. Congrats, you'll remember the first one for a long time!
