So my NP-29 was delivered from Canada Ammo on Friday, ordered it on the 23rd of May. So it took just over 2 weeks from the time I put the online order in to the time I had it in hand. Not too bad for my first restricted (well, first ever firearm) I think. But apparently the wait for the ATT will be much longer from what I've read. That's still some time off, I'm going to FRPC for their new applicant session on the 17th and then attend their pistol safety course so I can get my ATT. So there's still a bit of waiting to do.

The gun suffers from most issues I've read about. The edges are pretty harsh (especially those serrations), and the mags are s**t. Still pretty excited to have my first gun though since I've had my RPAL for about 2 years. I'm sure I'll be posting much more once I actually get to shoot her, asking tons of questions and seeking even more answers.

Anyways, I got around to taking some photos of it today. The first 4 are from before I went to work and I was just toying around with the available light I had from my patio window. The last 5 are in a makeshift softbox I macguyvered from my roommate's empty case of Bud and some 8.5x11 sheets of paper. The white balance may vary a bit with those because I had to manually tweak it.

If anyone has any advice they want to share with me about the gun or anything I should look into please let me know.

Congrats. If you scroll down a bit in the forum you can see my posting re feeding issue. People have chimed in with their experiences as well.

My mags, though they look like crap, works great.

I have exactly 299 rounds down the pipe and it's been improving in all ways.

I filed the serrations with stone and sand papers. They are smoother now.

I had to clean the gun about 4 times to get all the packing grease out. Nasty stuff.

Internal components are pretty rough. You can lightly sand them if you like but dont over do it unless u have right tools.

And search is your friend. :)

Ah yeah, about the packing grease. When I brought it home I field stripped it to clean it out. How detailed should I get with the cleaning to make sure all the crap is our of it? Are there any YouTube videos that you'd recommend to show me how to do it? That's the one thing I searched on here a fair bit for but couldn't find too much on.

Sorry if I sounded too abrupt in my pervious post. I'm typing on iPhone so trying to say as little as possible.

There are lots of 1911 disassembly vids on Internet. It's super easy after you do it once. Sear parts a little tricky at first but really, you just need a thin punch or Phillips head screw driver for all your dis/assembly.

Take everything apart if you want the packing grease out completely. If you are not comfortable with it, just spay brake cleaner and lightly oil slide and surface.

Grip is crap but it's better than nothing. I actually like it. :p
It's rough inside but gets better the more you shoot.

Nice photo btw. (forgot to say in my prev post)

Same here, the mags look like crap and I thought "oh no, going to have to buy some decent magazines."
But for 350rds they have been flawless. So has the gun. Colour me impressed.

Nice pictures!

My only gripe with the mags is I've gotta file down the front right edge of the followers because they catch on the mag release notch. I've gotta fight with one of them a bit to get more than 4 rounds in.

This was my first hand gun as well. Get some new grips for it right away! I have about 500 rounds through mine without any issues. I was so impressed with the pistol that I'm thinking about picking up an NP22.

I'm planning on replacing the toggles and non life threatening bits (grip safety, sights, etc) with stainless at some point and probably getting it Arma-coated. Though that's not for some time as I haven't even shot it yet.

One question I do have about the sights is what's the easiest make of sights to put on the Norc? I've read around that the (front) sights and grip screws are points of contention because they're made to different specs than your typical 1911.

Are the rear sights made to standard spec? Could I just buy some rear sights I like and install them with not too much effort?

Rear sight dovetail is standard Wison .330 X 60 degree dovetail. Front is smaller than the colt/wilson .300 X 60 and i could not find anything to match. I used a .300x60 front and milled the sight base to fit the Norinco dimensions.
