I am excited! ;) Took possession of my baby tonight. It isn't new but neither am I. Did some research here and other forums and the reputation interested me. Did some shooting tonight as well. It shoots where I point it. The problem with being a beginner is that I don't seem to point it consistently. Practice makes perfect they say. I also guess I need to find out what it likes as an ammo diet. Standard velocity Federal were a pain. Out of a box of 50 I had problems with maybe 15. The CCI Green tag worked flawlessly. Problem is that they are almost twice the price. More experimenting in the future.

Try some of the bulk ammo. Mine likes Federal Champion 525 bulk packs. Also does well with Win. 333 and 555,
but they're all different in their ammo preferance. And welcome to CGN

Try CCI Std Vel in the paper box for reliable, low cost ammo. I believe SV and GT are identical other than packaging and tolerances / batch selection.

Smith and Wesson recommend CCI Standard velocity.. I own two 41's and that's all they get and never a problem

Having tried lots of different ammo, my 41's prefer CCI SV and yes they are pretty similar to Green Tag's witch brass, bullet & powder are made to tighter tolerences for about twice the price.

Some things to watch out for, based on my experience with my S&W Model 41:

Extractors: Older guns may have a worn extractor, which will make them prone to stovepiping. When my 41 developed an ammo sensitivity, replacement of the extractor eliminated stovepiping, even with bulk HV ammo.

Recoil springs: A worn out recoil spring can cause light strikes due to the slide resting slightly out of battery, such that only a slight indentation or no indentation is left by the firing pin on the case rim. An 8lb extra strength spring might be a good idea if you are using HV ammo.

Firing pins: The old style pin makes a small indentation at the edge of the case rim. The newer style, chisel-pointed pin makes a larger indentation and will provide more reliable ignition. I got mine from Brownells.

Congrats on your Model 41.

Picked up a brand new Model 41 in the spring, had never even seen one in person before I bought it.

Tried about a dozen different types of .22, CCI SV was the definite winner... everything else was just so-so, and CCI Mini-Mags seemed too harsh.

CCI SV is the only thing that I run through it now. Very happy with my purchase as I am sure that you will be. It's a keeper.

You can get a "buffer" clip from Brownell's and add an 8 lb recoil spring from Wolfe springs and you can use CCI Mini mags as an altenate..
