My first handgun! (SIG p226 elite) - share the excitement

Hi all,

I am happy to say I just purchased my first handgun.

A "used, but looks to be in great condition" Stainless SIG P226 Elite in 9mm from TSE for $1199. Hope that's a decent price - it appeared consistent with what I've seen on the EE.

I will have to wait for the transfer and ATT to go through this week before I can bring it home, but I wanted to share in the excitement. Pics will be posted once I get to take her home. Can't wait. :D

*ALMOST* picked up the .22lr conversion kit as well - really a slick item, but thought I might try to track one down on the EE first.

Any tips, tricks or suggestions from the experienced 226 or other handgun owners out there?

Any local Calgary people have any advice on ranges to go to (TSE is the only place I've been), or willing to meet up on a range at some point and give me some pointers and or show me how to properly clean and take care of the little guy?

Congrats! My first pistol is Sig 226 Elite 9mm as well :D New toy arrived few days ago:

Agreed - I should have brought my camera - was foolish.

It looks great though - hope the transfer and ATT goes FAST

I put the .22 conversion kit on to see how it looked (black conversion kit on the stainless frame) and it looked sweet - definitely getting that....just the $499 price tag is ouch!
 
$500 ought to get you 2,000 rounds of 9mm ammo. that ought to be enough for a while, no? :p does your club have 22LR pistols that you could borrow if you supply your own 22LR ammo?
 
my SS is still in the mail dammit, but I did buy some SIG rosewood grips for it and a stainless rod already:dancingbanana:


and as far as taking care of it:
shoot,
clean,
repeat.
 
No tips, its a Sig lol

Just load it with any 9mm ammo you want, pull the trigger, and bang (works every single time ;) )

great first choice!
 
I have 2 Sig P-226, one .40 and the other 9mm, plus the Sig .22 conversion. GREAT guns to shoot. Just ordered a P-220 in .45 to complete the series. Have had nothing but good luck with the Sigs.

There's only one tip to know and practice like it's a religion:
SWEEP THE DECOCKER BEFORE HOLSTERING EVERYTIME, EVEN IF YOU THINK THE HAMMER IS DOWN

And damn those wood grips are dead ###y!
