my first handgun

Im looking to get my first handgun, thinking 9mm, and have been looking at the smith and wesson m&p. Ive seen them for 570$ and there is a mail in 50$ rebate and two extra mags. What do some of you think about the m&p's for a first handgun? The norinco's have a nice price tag are they any good? I'm not a big fan of the look of the glocks. Any other sugestions? Thanks
 
You didn't say if you had much (any) experience shooting handguns. If you don't then try as many as you can before you buy. Not just hold in the store but actually shoot them.
 
I don't have much experience with hand guns I've shot a few beretta's and liked them but most of those are out of my price range. I would love to try shooting some different pistols but don't know any place to do so in the vancouver area.

I might have to wait until I go to vegas in May the Las Vegas gun range has everything:D:sniper:
 
What about a ruger P89 are the any good or are they cheap for a reason


well I guess everything is cheap for a reason;)

I love it down there.. there is nothing like full auto

I take it the place you went to is an outdoor range? that would be alot better than the indoor range I went to. They had some sniper rifles there for sale but not to rent " would not be to fun in a 50 yard indoor range":sniper:

DVC indoor range in Port Coquitlam has all the big brother brand name handgun for you to try, I think it is a $ 60 day pass.

If you get one of the all-steel Norcs, you will be pleased. Stay away from the aluminum framed models.

I can't swear that what I just said is true but I have read numerous comments that Chinese steel is first rate (actually harder than that used by western manufacturers which may account for the indifferent finish) but they haven't yet got the knack of making good aluminum. I have an NZ85, a copy of a CZ75B; it's tough, reliable, and feels good in the hand.
 
I bought a M&P 9 2 months ago and I have about 500 rds thru it of CCI Brass and handloads. I like it alot and have had no stoppages at all. this is about my 6th pistol in 20 years and the first auto without a hammer and a safety but have gotten used to it quickly. Like the other posters said try as many as you can for the fit, feel and features you like.

actually it was indoor :( but still fun

Think of it this way: an extra 500 bucks on a one-time purchase that will have the ability to last you many years is not that big. Avoid buying lunch for a couple of months and BAM you have your Beretta money.

I wish it was that easy right now.. We are looking to buy a house soon so I'm on a budget:):):(
 
They are good choices in guns as far as I am concerned but like others have said don't go just by what other people say. If it is possible shoot them first at the range. I am sure you will find someone at your club that has one or both of these as they are very common. One man's gun is another man's garbage. LOL I love my Ruger P345 but others hate it.

I have handled both glock 17 and m&p 9mm but have not fired those two. They both feel good but I'm not a big fan of the look of the glock. I'm in no rush, it will be at least a week before I get my LTATT

For years I have tried to avoid Glock because of the look. Finally got one G17 last Christmas and man this gun shoot really well. I get better grouping than my CZ. The M&P is really well made, has better sight and trigger pull but I still
choose Glock over the M&P.
