I just got back from my first hunt (other than gophers ;-) in over 20 years. I was up to the Beaver Trail Hunt Camp in the Madawaska Highlands (Eastern Ontario) for a work party. While walking and the fixing the trails I also hunted grouse.

I flushed 2 grouse but I was too slow on the shotgun (My new Rem 870 12 Ga with 21" barrel and Mod choke ;-) . Most of the leaves were also on the trees so it was hard to see the birds. The weather was WARM (close to 25C), sunny with a gusty wind.

What a great way to get back into hunting. I am planning on a 2-3 day grouse hunt in Oct and then a 4-5 day deer hunt in November.

The best part of the hunt, other than spending time out of cell phone range, was seeing all of the "old growth" pine and hemlocks in this area. Truly amazing!

My boy-scout training (Be Prepared!) also paid off as I used duct-tape from my survival kit to repair the drain plug of our boat ;-)

I hope to take some pictures next time and I will post here.

Tom

p.s. pics of this area and my last trip there can be found on my blog here.
