WOW !
I did my first IDPA event this Sunday at my range in Mission . This was only my second time shooting a pistol
It was also the first time shooting the pistol I used for the event, a Sig P320 Full Frame
It seems that the Sig was a lot easier to aim than my Shadow 2 that I took my Handgun Fundamentals Course with.
I was also using my other pair of glasses than I wore when I took the course . Same prescription just different frame .

The fellas that I met at the event were fantastic ! They were very welcoming and answered a lot of my many, many questions .

They also were forthcoming with tips to help me improve .

Unfortunately I was Disqualified after 3 stages as I made a critical safety error by placing my weak hand under my holster when going to draw . Not Good !

As we all know SAFETY is paramount !
I need to practice ,practice , then practice some more !

I’m going to need to get a belt , holster , mag holders .
Will need to different holsters one for the Sig P320 and one for the Shadow 2

It seems fellas use a variety of different holsters but from my observation I think
most used a Level 1 Friction Holster .

Any recommendations would be appreciated !

The big American brands for holsters are Safariland and Bladetech, Safariland are really well built but expensive, however they have tons of mounting options and you can use the same attachment system for both holsters and swap them out quickly. BladeTech are more of a mass produced holster but excellent for IDPA etc.
I personally use a couple of Canadian Kydex holster makers, Solely Canadian and Grey Fox Industries. Both make fantastic holsters, I personally prefer Solely, but own and use both. Many options available for both handguns you mentioned, look at Competition models not Concealment models 👍
I use a 5.11 Operators belt for IDPA, affordable and tough as nails, but remember, gear is an endless rabbit hole lol, I have TONS of gear I bought, used, didn’t like and now it takes up space in my storage 😂😂😂

Would like to get some cardboard targets to practice so maybe IDPA like ones .
Seems Amazon would be the cheapest at $43.00 for 80 of them just use stickers to cover holes .
Then I could make my own from scrap cardboard .
Thoughts please

Check with Blake at Mission,, they MAY sell IDPA targets?
I’ve always bought mine from Chilliwack Fish and Game but I’m not positive they are still selling them, let me look in to it and I will pm you if they are. If you need a few to get started I can probably set you up with a dozen to get going,
Also, look up Dry Fire Pistol Drills on YouTube and it will give you some things to work on at home, I do dry fire drills or train on Ace Virtual Reality every day, even half an hour of dry fire a day will give you noticeable improvements 😊

I've used a Safariland holster for my 320 for IDPA and 3 gun. I also use a kydex friction holster that I bought off of Ebay that has more than enough retention for shooting sports. Solely Canadian makes some nice stuff that would work. I personally prefer to wear a Safariland duty belt and belt keepers for all my pistol work. As for targets I buy the smaller paper plates from the dollar store and staple them to a silhouette target and swap them put as they get perforated.

You can go with a Blackhawk omni holster. It is a thumb drive holster. So you can setup a belt with 1 holster and use it for multiple guns. As long as it has a rail to put the piece that locks the gun in.

Come see me next Wed at Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club. Arrive shortly before 7pm.

I think I have a few lightly used IDPA targets you can have.

Also bring both your Sig P320 and Shadow 2. We can zero them. I usually zero around 15 yards for IDPA/IPSC.

Normally the Shadow 2 is too heavy for IDPA, but they might let you run it anyway. I don’t know the current rules. I can show you how to safely lower the hammer on a live round for the load and make ready command if you’re allowed to run it.

If you’re still running the factory mainspring, I might have a lighter one here we can swap out for a lighter DA pull.

Congrats on starting your journey into competitive shooting! Always glad to see new people taking up and growing the sport.

I’ve got a couple of seasons of IDPA under my belt so I’m newish as well. I’m personally using a Solely Canadian holster for my Canik and a DAA PDR pro for my Shadow. I have them both on the Safariland QLS / ELS attachment system so I can switch them out at will on a Safariland ELS belt. I’ve also rigged my own belt ratchet system so I can throw on / off the belt or adjust my belt on the fly.

As for targets, I bought a set of self healing rubber IPSC targets that I just spray paint as needed.

As far as belts and holsters I was asking at the IDPA even this past weekend and it seems that fellas order items online . Hmm. Would it not be better to be able to try on belts and holsters in person ?
I realize you can’t bring your pistol to the store to try the holster !

Just out of curiosity, did you get an exemption to shoot your P320? Last I heard those were banned from all IDPA events and some IPSC events due to ranges banning them.

Well you just want a stiff belt so the holster doesn't flop or roll.

Just ask people at the club if you can borrow to test.

When I started at 16. I just had the factory glock holster and mag pouches. I worked on fundamentals than going fast.

When meeting fellas at the event they asked what I was shooting . I replied a Sig P320
Full Frame . It has the upgraded FCU . I purchased it new before the ban .
They said so far the pistol is not banned at the club . I hope it never does

In BC, certain IDPA clubs allow the use of the P320 simply due to the fact that because of the “ handgun freeze” some of our competitors have the 320 as their only platform 🤷‍♂️
Chilliwack and Mission allow the P320 to be used

Edgy ! I just started a thread on a holster for the Sig P320 . Few fellas chimed in that Sig P320 is banned from IDPA events . So I said not at Mission !
