So I've spent the last few days trying to figure out what I wanted for a new pistol (my first pistol). I had originally written off the FMK 9C1 due to mixed reviews for them. I was seriously thinking about getting a Norinco NP34 (sig 228 clone) Then it was brought to my attention that Wanstall's had the FMK 9C1 for $279+tax...

So I called 'em up, and they had one left. Asked them to hold it, then headed over. The girl across the counter said they get good reviews, and it felt good in my hand, so I bought it. $313 total, can't argue with those prices!

So now comes the standard question... I dont have a range membership. Obviously I plan to get one, but will this hold up my ATT or whatever? Is the BC CFO demanding proof of membership at a range like some other provinces?

Also, they didn't have any extra mags. Does anyone know where I could get extra mags for this?

Unwritten cgn rule: you need to post pictures when you talk about a new gun. We are here for the gun ####!

Congrats for the purchase!

Shoulda snapped one with my phone. Dont physically have it yet. I can post stock photos...

I bought the black one.

CFO I would assume? Are you in BC?

I'm in AB and yes, AB demands proof of range membership before issuing a LTATT.

I have had stuff held up due lack of info on the CFOs side, but never ever have they attempted to contact me.
I find out about the issue only after contacting them!!

Hence the "Who are they" question. The BC CFOs office actually contacted you?

Yes, they want to have your Range membership before issuing the LTATT. I just bought my first pistols yesterday, got my reference numbers and called the CFO number. The officer I spoke to was really nice, spoke to me for over 30 minutes, also mentioned I did it right by getting a .22 along with a large calibre. :) He also reminded me that you need a STATT in BC to take your gun to the shop for service.

I'm waiting on the registration right now too. I'm in BC and they did want range membership info. I applied for an LATT before getting the gun and then did the transfer stuff. They told me that I should find out the next day and be all set. That was a week and a half ago. Now apparently Im waiting on Ottawa for the registration. It's a private sale and I've heard going though a retailer can be easier

You can't take it until the transfer is complete and then you can call in for a STATT. You can ask for the registration to be emailed to make it a little faster. I'm not sure if you can get the LTATT emailed or not but it wouldn't hurt to ask

Let us know how it goes and range report once you have it :)

PM incoming of a local place with magazines in stock,
I liked my fmk when I had it for what it was, but ended up selling it and switching to glock, just for ease of parts, accessories ect as I got into IPSC.
They had a recall a while ago, but if you shoot FMK an email they will check and make sure you have the latest trigger version.

Side note, as the FMK stands for For My Kountry, (Yup, with a K) you can find some interesting reading about the founder/owner Jim Pontillo, and how he has made some pretty controversial/racist statements, and all his interesting theories.

Oh and what about the registration?

Do i need to wait for a piece of paper to show up in the mail or...?
Do you actually have the gun physically at home or is it still at Wanstall's awaiting the transfer?
The CFO should ( but not really sure) issue you a STATT to take the gun home. Then they may not if you can't prove range membership, I really don't know the answer to that. But assuming you got a STATT to bring the gun home, you will have a nice paperweight until you show PROOF of range membership. They usually want a membership number or picture ID or something. An application for membership does not count, you actually have to be an active member to apply for a LTATT. Your registration will come separately and should arrive within 2 weeks. The LTATT will be a while until they have proof of membership. If you are in a hurry to shoot your new toy, find a friend with a LTATT, have him or her get a STATT to your house, pick you up with your registration and gun, take you to the approved range and take you home. Or if you are conveniently or reasonably direct route on his way to the range, you can hop into his moving vehicle and Bob's your uncle.:dancingbanana:

For both my restricted, BC CFO wanted proof of membership before authorizing. Quickest/easiest thing is to join Silvercore

Is this authorizing the STATT or the LTATT? Are you allowed to get a STATT to bring the gun home from the store in BC without a range membership? I've never gone through that scenario so was just wondering. My membership was always in place so never had the problem either way.
And +1 on Silvercore! Quickest and easiest way to get the LTATT while OP is deciding on a range ( see other thread)

This was for LTATT. Not sure about STATT, I didn't even bother applying for STATT until my LTATT was approved.

Am I right in guessing that for a first time RPAL buyer WITHOUT an existing active range membership, he/she cannot even apply to take a legally bought restricted firearm home with a STATT then apply for the LTATT after? So the store holds the firearm until there is proof of range membership then the buyer applies for the STATT?

This is what I was told by Wanstalls. Once I have called them, and then faxed or emailed proof of membership, they'd authorize an ATT so I can bring it home. And dont forget the locks when I come back for it.

I thought about doing that. I took my PAL and challenged my CORE through them, so I am aware of the service... But I figure if Im going to buy a pistol, its stupid to not have a range membership too. It pays for itself in under 7 trips to the range, compared to day pass costs, and I could easily do that in two months, let alone a whole year. If I wasn't prepared to buy a range membership, I probably wouldn't have bought a pistol in the first place. In fact, I won my fantasy football pool, so I decided to use the winnings for a range membership. After I had decided to get a range membership I realized I need a handgun now. lol
