My first pistol with IPSC fun competition in mind

Wow lots of love for the CZ. I tried it out at my range the other day and I must say it is nice. I am also interested in the HK SFP9 as it just looks so sweet and reviews so far are great. I as well need a first pistol as I want to do some IPSC for fun, so any suggestions are welcome.

I shot a cz for years for IDPA, switched to an M&P9 (which fits my hand great and have never had a problem with), but can't hit $hit with it !......constantly hitting low, I have to aim at top of target to hit center , which can become an issue in competition ( I know its not the gun, have had several more experienced shooters try it and have no problem, so I know it's me)

Own a 2nd as backup, but you're just starting out and won't be doing level III's with airfare, hotels, etc.
Keep it simple, 1 will do ya.

Enjoy.

Like above.. level 1 and 2 matches are easy going. I've offered my back up to others using similar pistols when theirs went down. So one will do you for quite some time. I've found the IPSC crowd around my area to be very supportive, helpful, and pretty easy going.

If IPSC and other shooting "games" are part of your desire just be sure you can find a range of holsters and mag pouches for whatever you pick.

There's really two big differences to worry about. First is metal vs plastic. They both feel different in the hand for balance. I know the "metal vs plastic" makes it sound like I'm biased against "plastic". But that's not the case. There's some nice shooting plastic framed guns out there. But I just preferred the balance of the all metal guns in my hands.

Next up is the trigger feel between hammer and striker fired guns. And not only the trigger feels different. Most striker fired guns tend to let the bore sit lower in your grip. But in my case I didn't like the way the triggers felt compared to hammer fired guns.

X2 , have witnessed the same, which is good.

IPSC Production essentially = ``Shadow Class ``
Yeah pretty much, probably 8/10 guys run a shadow or some kinda cz. Like BC said if your gun ever goes down there will be 30 people there with the same gun and I don't think you would have a probably getting one of them to lend you one.

I currently use a G17 that's modified so I have to shoot standard division. I think it will always be my favorite firearm, however I don't think it's that great of a competition gun. Took a Cz out for a couple practice shots and it feels and shoots good, a lot more natural to shoot, especially for competitions; however, I think they are super ugly, that's just me. Wanting to shoot production soon, so a Tanfoglio Stock III is in the works for me. Probably the most comparable firearm to the CZ's for Production class.
