I ordered a Savage Model 10FP in .223 and a BSquare one piece mount today from Wholesale Sports. I know it's not up there with the rifles that most of you guys have, but it's my first and I don't have all the money in the world, or my bank account for that matter. It's going to be used mainly for coyotes and gophers.

thats is a good start!!!

what are you going to use for a scope??

Jamie Barkwell

Jamie...no idea what I will use for a scope yet. I know I will make a few people cringe when I say this but...I have a knock off of a Mark 4 sitting at home that will be going on it for a while. Either that or I will take my Buckmasters off of the 10/22 and put that on it for now. No money for glass right now.

ahh, who cares what you use on it mate, just have fun! Thats what its all about after all. Congrats on your purchase, I'm looking to get one of those soon myself.

What scope do you have on this rifle. Maybe some people can offer suggestions on what scope he could use. Sure it would be nice to have a really nice Leupold but maybe a Elite 3200 x10 mildot would be good enough for a guy in his situation.

Shoot.learn and have fun! Then shoot more ,learn more and enjoy!
IMHO the greatest round and rifle to learn on is the one in your hands at the time and lotsa ammo, whatever it is.
Best

"...No money for glass right now..." Put on what you have. As long as it's mounted properly, bore sighted then sighted in with the ammo you intend using, it'll be fine.
Unless you're reloading already, you'll have to try a box of as many brands and bullet weights as you can to find the ammo it will shoot well. Then sight in.

I have 300+ rounds of 55 gr WWB and some Winchester 45gr Varmint sitting here to use. I will be looking to get into reloading this Spring to get a decent accurate load for hot dogs (gophers). I want to be able to get them out to about 300m so it will probably take some work on my part as well as finding the right load and getting some good glass.

I have a 10fp (le1a) in 308. Cheap weaver bases and rings. Weaver K6 scope. Cheap american eagle fmj, it'll shoot MOA if I do my part. :D I love it, I'd like one in 223 as well. (20")

the classic bushnell 3200 10x40 scope

How should I go about breaking in the barrel? I usually just clean with a patchworm untill they come out clean.
