After many hours scouring CGN and the rest of the internets I pulled the trigger (pun not intended) on my first restricted purchase.

Ended up ordering an HK SFP9, I really wanted to get the RAL 8000 version so it would match my TRG (accessorizing and the like) but as many of you guys know impatience is the curse of the gun nut.

Now the wait begins for transfers, etc. (have no idea how that stuff works...).

You may want to fax your range membership to the CFO. I sold a pistol to a new guy in Calgary took 4 weeks to transfer cause they didn't have a range membership on file. Every other transfer was done in 1-10 days.

Spot on about the range membership. If you don't they will hold it up for month or more. Fax it in with the transfer number and it will speed up a lot.

good for you..happy shooting and more guns to come....lol

Read online (CGN actually) that you can use your receipt temporarily before the reg cert arrives. Hoping this is true and I can head out next weekend.

If you are staying g within your province of residence your PAL covers to your transport to the range. All the firearms act says is that a restricted firearm HAS to be registered. It doesn't state that you must carry said registration.

The criminal code does mention that failure to produce a registration when asked by a peace officer, said officer COULD seize the firearm for 14 days or until you can produce the registration certificate for it.

If you have the bad luck of being arrested, and the bad luck of somehow having a firearm in the car and somehow have it come up with the officer, and he requests the cert and will not accept your notice of transfer as proof of ownership, and he's such a douche he decides to seize your pistol, then you are the unluckiest person I know.

Don't drive like an idiot on your way to the range and don't offer any information that is not asked of you if you are stopped for... I dunno, looking weird?

Have fun ;)

Or just wait the 2 weeks and be 100% worry free.

Oh and for a little extra tinfoil;

Those laws apply in your house too. So if for whatever reason a peace officer comes to your home, and for whatever reason asks about your pistol, and for whatever reason asks to see the registration, and you don't have it yet, he could seize it for 14 days. Nice laws eh? "Here's your gun we allow you to have it. But by the way, we wont give you a registration cert before 2 weeks so we can seize it if we feel like it."

Tinfoil is right.
