Today I am heading down to wholesale sports and picking up my first rifle. I am still torn on what to get.

This is going to be for grouse, rabbit, and tagret. Most of all its a filler while i wait for my 12Ga to come in. I am looking for something fun to shoot, accurate, and most of all not >$500 (hoping to stay under $300 with tax)

so far,

-Henry Lever H001 (cuz levers are cool)
-Marlin Model 60 (cuz its purdy)
-Ruger 10/22 (ive heard they are good)
-Savage semi-auto combo (cuz it comes with a scope)
-?

Semi?
Remington 597
Also comes in a kit with scope. Prices are going up, grab one before it's too late.

Bolt?
Savage Mark II with heavy barrel and Accu trigger
Very accurate rifle.

Ruger 10/22. Buy lots of 25 rounders if you shoot alot, the mags are going to be scarse. If not that rem 597 above sounds like a good bet.

X2!!!!!!! I have 2 rugers, and I love them. They have the most accessories out of any .22 out there, so if you love tinkering it is a great gun.

The Savage Accutrigger blade is an additional "saftey" device that allows a much lighter, user adjustable trigger pull that still remains lawer friendly.

im not sure about the accutrigger. it looks off. is it a safety device or does it make the trigger pull lighter (or can the trigger pull be lighter because of it)

Just bought a MKII with the Accutrigger. It may look off to you, but it's a really, really nice trigger; light and crisp and sweet. It's better than the (mostly aftermarket and pretty darn nice) trigger on my 10/22.

Overall, I gotta say that I am very impressed with the MKII; inexpensive, great accuracy/price ratio, and I love the trigger.

i like the clip idea, because i wouldnt have to load and unload every time i get in and out of the truck.

i like the semi auto idea if the rabbit is on the run, but 99% of what i want to shoot wont be moving, and if it is my buddie will have his 20Ga...

ill have to shoulder the MKII tonight and see...
