My First Rifle - tikka T3 lite synthetic in .270

This is my first rifle, so far Ive been using my fathers 30-30 and .308 for deer and moose respectively. At 21 I'm pretty happy with my purchase, I settled for a .270 after searching high and low for a left handed rifle that was in a caliber I was comfortable shooting both deer and moose with. I was originally looking for a Remington 700 in .308 but couldn't find a left handed version that I could pick up in time for our moose hunting trip.

I topped it with a Bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40 on Leopold rings. I was planning on going for a Nikon 2.5-10 power but my funds are a little low at the moment. Coming in at just under $1000 I think I did pretty good for an all round hunting rifle. Without further a due here she is:

Good purchase. You won't be disapointed with that scope.

Now you gotta start saving your brass and think about getting into handloading. :)

Should do the trick, have you shot it yet?

Federal makes some good .270 moose loads, those being a 150gr Nosler Partition and a 140gr Nosler Accubond, or the 130gr TSX...

After much lurking/searching CGN I knew I wasn't making a bad choice going with the Tikka, all your responses here confirm that.

We leave the 4th of October for our moose hunt, so keep an eye out for a post with pictures of our trip in the hunting forum. Last year my cousin took a good sized cow on the second day, Hopefully we'll get a crack at a bull this season.

As for the reloading, we'll see. Living with the parents hasn't given me much space to store guns, so I can forget about reloading until I have my own work space...or I decide that a reloading press belongs on my desk more than my laptop.
 
Good Choice on the Tikka T-3

I have owned a Tikka T-3 in a 25-06 Rem Caliber for about 4 years now and have taken down some very nice whitetails at very long ranges , best so far 545 yards , I have also dropped a cow moose dead in her tracks at about 165 yards , My best feat yet with it though is a 5x5 Bull elk shot by Rocky Mountain House Alberta , 2 shots in the boiler room and he went down no problem.I use Hornady ammo when I am not reloading and the Tikka seems to like it ....117 gr Light mags the ammo is called they get out there at about 3110 fps....When i reload I use a 120 gr nosler partion.So the rest of the comments on ammo etc and the rifle you have purchased are very accurate!!!...Tikka makes a great rifle , accurate as every other gun on the market ....after all a gun is only as good as the shooter lets it shoot.!!!....
You will be more and more impressed the more you shoot yours as I have been...You will have years of great memories with the rifle and if I was a betting man I would almost say you will stick with the Tikka you purchased and not bother going to a .308 although it is a great bullet in its own right....

You lefties are all deformed. :dancingbanana:

I'd think there should be "Lefty Olympics" but us normal people need you lefties to paddle on the other side of the boat to keep it from going in circles.

How's that for comments? :D

lol, I'm actually right handed but with a dominant left eye...So hows that for deformed? Ive always felt more comfortable shooting lefty, which wasn't really a problem with pumps or semi's. I just wanted the accuracy and reliability of a bolt action, which was a bit of a pain when it came to finding a rifle I liked.

I'm the same. Not a 'true' lefty, pretty much can do everything, but shoot, ambi. Does it get much worse?;)

I had a LH Tikka in 223. Good gun, great shooter. Just went down the road as part of my transformation from 'Gunnut' to more a 'HuntinNut'.:)
