My First Shotgun for Clays

If it fits you, great choice. Berettas reputation is outstanding. Shoot it enjoy it, give to your kids for them to enjoy, For some reason you need a gun change, Berettas holds value very well. Have fun with your new gun

From what I understand in a single word "yes" but there is the odd problem. Its not worth looking past a good gun. Even a Mercedes has to go in for warranty work every now and then.

Close the gun with purpose but wouldn’t get in the habit of making the barrels sound like tuning forks it might end up in two pieces.

Shoot with a number of them on a regular bases and only a couple problems ejectors and guns becoming to half’s wasn’t any of them.

Pretty nice first clays gun hopefully you and it get along.

I am a bit of a nit picker when it comes to firearms. I like well made, reliable, firearms. This often means they are not inexpensive. LOL. On shotguns I really enjoy the engraving! Some very nice art work out there. I hope to have it this week. I have had the LOP modified so it should fit perfectly based on the ones I have tried.

You shoot anything enough and it will bust unfortunately Beretta doesn’t think seperating a mono block as a mile stone worth a new free gun.

Sounds real good post up some pics when you get it.

Hope you got a good one.know of couple guys that are not happy with theirs . One gun as had issues with the safety and the action screw sheared off leaving him holding nothing but the rear stock .rest of the gun ended up on the ground at his feet with a live shell in one barrel . The second gun just had some QC issues such as over torqued adjustable comb screws and such .

Thanks for the heads up. I will keep my eye out for issues such as the ones you identified. You think for that price the QC and quality would be near perfect.

Cheers

I am not sure if this is correct but from some treads on some shotgun chat forums they said:
- Serial numbers 50000 or less were more prone to problems, and
- Ones produced 2014 or earlier were more prone to problems too.

This is what I found:

There are three main issues with the 692:
- The screw can drop out of the adjustable trigger blade. This is an easy fix even if this hasn’t happened to you yet.
- The ejector retainers have problems with lugs shearing off. This can cause problems if a shard of metal gets into the ejector mechanism. Beretta issued new retainers (I believe that they are now hardened) in July 2016.
- The top tang bolt that holds the trigger assembly in place can shear after about 20K rounds (according to some shooters). Just search for “Beretta 602 top tang screw” on Google.

Everything needs maintenance. Doesn't matter what it is, or how much you spend.

Enjoy your new shotgun. If it truly melds with you, you will have it forever and just keep shooting it better.

Let your buddy know I'll buy his gun. You can PM me the details.

I have a 690 (same action) and have been 110% happy with my purchase. I've got around 10,000 rounds on it now. Not a single hick-up.

I see far more issues with Brownings.

Both are great guns still. The issues are minor, albeit can be problematic depending on if or when they surface.

A 692 is a VERY nice first gun. It'll last you the rest of your life. Enjoy it.

Keep in mind most of these "issues" brought up are very old. Considering how many are out there and how many internet postings you find will show you just how big of an issue it is. Plus, shotgun people gossip like highschool girls. Everybody owns something better, and their advice is always right =)

Have fun!

Just got the shotgun and as I expected it fits perfectly. I cannot believe it. It looks like a quality product but the proof will be in the clays!! Being relatively new to shotguns it should be a good learning curve - LOL

Were do people shoot shotguns around Calgary? Clays? Pheasants?

The only club I know of is Silver Willow by Carstairs. They have gone members only. I think there is a pheasant place near there to.

I've never been to the trap club south of Calgary but plan to try it out when I'm in town for an extended stay. Here's a link: http://www.shootalberta.com/calgary.html

BTW, congrats on the purchase. I'm brand new to clay shooting and opted for a Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon 1. I'm very happy with the purchase as I'm sure you will be.

CDTSA - Invite Only - 5-stand
Silver Willow - Invite with member. - Skeet and Sporting Clays
Mossleigh - Not too sure.. Only been to their competition.
etc.

I'm a member at Aheia, and CDTSA. If you need someplace to shoot maybe we can work something out. If the weather is nice I might go this weekend.

There is a pheasant release business. My mind is blank at the moment but you can buy birds... Last I heard things were winding down there, but lets hope not.

If you are going to shoot a fair bit of clays, apply for a membership at silver willows or any other club that suits your needs. There are pretty significant savings on targets when being a member. I shoot at Blackmores Shooting Sports but i live well north of you.

Wessex is near Carstairs, but I hear that it is closing. White Wolf is by Langdon, and has pheasants, and chukar as well for part of the year.
