Hi Guys,

I need a bit of help here... I "inherited" a shotgun from my dad... he's had it forever, but never used it... and he doesn't know much about it...

It's a side by side made by "The Leige United Arms Co Ltd Leige (Belgium)"... At the chamber end, it says "Leader" between the two barrels, and each barrel has has an engraved centaur with the words "Le Centaure"...

When you take the barrels off... it has a buch of stamps...

So, can you guys help... I don't know what gauge it is... so that really puts a damper in trying to buy ammo... do you know how I can go about finding that out... I guess the best way would be a gun smith...

Also, any info on this gun/company would be great.

Thanks

Hi ebruder!

I'm not the greatest expert but one of the stamps is "16-65" which means 16 ga with 65 mm chambers (2 1/2"). I don't know if ammo is available. I strongly suggest you have it checked by a gunsmith.

Probably just a wall hanger...

eBruder - suggest refer to the attached URL for possible indentification guidelines. The page does list a couple SXS from the same manufacturer.....scroll down a bit....you should be able to decipher the proofmarks present on your barrels/flats.

As already stated by smoking hull, it would certainly be prudent to have the firearm inspected by a competent gunsmith prior to using that :)

As far as 2 1/2 inch shells are concerned those won't be hard to find although not items that one might readily expect to obtain as soon as one enters a gunshop.

So I brought it to the gun shop today...

It is a 16Ga x 2 1/2" chamber, with a full choke on one side, and an improved modified on the other... it has a french walnut stock apparently!

Wish me luck finding ammo!

One option is Sellier and Bellot, part # SB1728X. North Sylva is listed as the importer.

Polywad makes some specifically for vintage arms, but they don't list a Canadian retailer.

PV with a crown over top is nitro proof for a belgian made shotgun. I have two Liege United Arms Co. LTD 12GA. SXS shotguns. I think kent makes 2 1/2" shells

Do these guns have any collector value? Is this a good shotgun? I'm really reaching for any info you guys can offer.
