Whats the best way to get in there?
 
You need gloves as sheet metal is sharp. I use gloves and a pair of pliers, the handle if you pull it the correct direction may help start the process. I like to rip the lid right off instead of making a small hole to get at the ammo.
 
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. I remember my first can like it was yesterday.
Didn't have no fancy ring pull either. Just a big ass can opener.
Well we tried and tried with the can opener ( Spesnatz can do it eh ) We ran out of bandages before we even scared the can. We could see the boxes inside but couldn't get to em :(
Ended up using air powered steel nippers to free the boxes. Start to finish took about 3 hours, some glad we weren't under attack :)
FWIW..................The can openers are just there to f%$K with your head ( Soviet psy-ops)

My crate of 7.62x54 didn't include an opener at all. I eventually resorted to a big slotted screwdriver and a hammer, and slowly chiseled it open. Not the most elegant job I've ever done, but it worked!

This was a local sale so no can opener for me, i must have been lucky i was really expecting an epic 4 hr battle with me surely victorious thou bloodied and bruised, the seams opened nice and clean

Lol that's how the can lining my first Czech crate went for me. I was pulling one of the tabs with either vice grips or pliers. About halfway through the tab on the other side decided to pop off. At first I thought "great don't have to pull that one off" Then realized I'd lost a lot of my leverage on the tab I was working on. Had to find some padded gloves (which were fingerless of course), stand over the can and pull the lid up, little by little I wrenched it off.

About a year ago I picked up a 1200 round crate with the rounds packed in plastic. Was very pleased to see the plastic :D
