My first success hunting Coyotes with hounds

Great stuff Bill C68!!! The dogs must make it exciting! How do you keep up with the dogs??? I imagine the coyote must have lots of speed, with dogs at his heels!!! Its something that I haven't seen around these parts. Anyway, keep it up, they are tough fellows to hunt, there's no worry of wiping them out.

The hound season is over as of today, so no more until next fall.

You don't keep up to them, you fins small woods and basically surround it with bodies and guns, usually 12Gs but sometimes a rifle might be involved. Then you just hope for the best. There is also quite a bit of hopping in the truck and running to another spot etc. And every once in awhile you have to scrape a hound off the highway.

I miss those days of scrambling, bush to bush and setting up dogs and blockers for coyote and fox, all day long. It was a lot of fun.:)

I wanted to try it this winter but just couldn't find the time with every ones mixed schedule.

Never lost a dog to the trucks or trains while I was with the southern Ontario boys, but heard a few stories of dogs getting hit by them.:(

Loosing dogs happens more often with the big running hounds that chase them visually for many miles and end up crossing roads with heavier vehicle traffic.

I think we are done for the year as well. After that rain on friday and -20 today the snow is like sandpaper on the dogs paws. After a 3 hour run the dogs paws were all cut up, the dogs wanna keep going but its too hard on them, The drive in these hounds is amazing, I swear they could loose a leg and still want to keep on running.,
