I bought a Tikka T3 Sporter about 2 weeks ago, an impulse buy. Walked into a gun shop, and someone had just brought in a used one, in .308, to sell. Bought it without even debating, as I had been wanting to get a nice rifle to try a bit of longer range shooting. Also bought a Bushnell Elite Tactical 4.5-30x50 to go on it.
Took it out to the local gravel pit today to sight it in. Started at 25yards, got it zeroed, then moved back to about 100 yards, to re-adjust the scope. Here's a picture of my final 9 shots, from 100 yards. Using Sellier & Bellot 180gr .308 ammo.
Started in the Upper left, and got closer to centre as I adjusted the scope. The last three shots were the bullseye, and the two directly to the right of it. I think I flinched with the last one, as a bug was biting me right then ! (blackflies were horrible!!! they were covering my arms and face).
I know it's not tight groups, but i'm quite happy with it as my first time shooting the rifle, my first time shooting .308, and my first use of shooting bags front and rear. Figured out how to use them from a video in Youtube!
Hope to get lots more practice over the next few months before winter.
As an aside, I tried the "set trigger" thing on the Sporter.... holy cow that is a light trigger! I was lined up and as I brought my finger down, to get it placed on the trigger correcty, I brushed the trigger and it fired! I think with practice, it will be a handy feature, but for now, I'll use the regular trigger pull - don't want any accidents!
All in all, a great experience with my new rifle!
