Well i worked last night out on the ranges and was getting off at 6 am, the weather was gonna be cold, my partner and i figured , hey, why go to sleep when we can go hunting....so we went out to a fresh cut over , sat down at 645 , i was in a ground blind made from fallen spruce, he walked over to the far side of the cut over and we waited, we were only there 20 minutes when i heard a buck blowing, not far from me, i thought o great i spooked him, so i sprayed some doe urine around and made a doe call, sat there for another 20 mins, and i saw 2 doe about 175 m away crossing from the wood line into the cut over, I watched closely thinking Mr buck would follow, but no, so i waited a little more and was glassing around and saw horns, my heart went threw my chest, Never have even seen a buck in my sights till today, shot a few does, but no bucks!, so i watched him walk up a ridge, and disappear, no shot, damn, 5 mins later i hear him blowing, when i look he is running towards me, closer, closer closer, ok man you got to stop for the shot i said to myself, he came to 20 yards and stopped, i fired and he didn't flinch, what the hell, he ran towards me again, 10 yards, i step out oft he trees and fire again, well there was no need he was dead on his feet, came by me at 10 feet and fell over in a fresh pile of apples we put out this morning!!!Took him with my customized Lithgow 303.

so needless to say im very happy, ive been awake since 2 pm yesterday as i write this and have to go to work again tonight from 10 -6 am, but im not tired one bit!!!!

here he is, My first buck, and im going to have him mounted!! He weighed in
at 182 lbs

Congrats - you did everything right. A lot of guys would assume that they were busted when they heard the "blowing", or that when he disappeared that he was gone for good, but you showed patience and held your ground.

Congratulations, Good things don't come to those who sleep!

You have turned the 303 into a nice deer gun. Did you do the 1 piece stock conversion and scope mount your self?

Thanks guys, ill never forget my first, lol

David Doyle the stock on it is a ATI Ramline Synthetic stock, it took a little fitting and what not, the scope mount was made by BMW, here on CGN, we were posted in 2 RCR here in Gagetown together for a while and he made it for me from scratch and by eye!

Awsome... I got my first buck on the last Friday of archery only season, I am still buzzed about it!! I got it about 45 minutes from you in Pearsonville.
182 lbs??? wow is that dressed weight or whole? I thought my 3 pointer was big at 152!
That reminds me the buthcer should be calling me today!

Just like you, I have seen does (non resident so could never get one) and the first buck I have ever seen (while hunting) was the one I got. I can still remember the punding in my chest. I have been hunting in NB since 03, this was my 5th hunting license.
