Just wanted to share my first Whitetail deer.
I have been hunting for three years, and ben lucky enough to draw a doe tag all three years (Which get used by the group). Unfortunately I was unable to join the camp in the WMU I drew the tag for this year, due to work, and was very disappointed I missed my season.
I decided to invest in a crossbow in an attempt to extend my season, and I was lucky to have a friend offer me a place to hunt into december.
After a few nights in the stand, and seeing a couple of does, and a buck I couldn't get a good angle on, This guy walked right into my arcs.
With my heart beating about 7 billion BPM, I lined up and time slowed for a good broadside shot. There was a few branches I had to shoot through, but just looking at him, I didn't want to give him any opportunity to run.
I felt my finger on the trigger, thought briefly about the distance, and shooting downward angle from the tree.
I squeezed... He jumped, kicked, and ran....
After nearly falling out of my tree in excitement, I decided to climb down to see if I had hit, and immediately I saw my arrow sticking in the ground... with white snow... As I approached, I noticed a mist like blood splatter ever so faint...
After a brief wait as to not push him had I not hit him well, I went off along the trail.... More blood.... After about 150m, I saw him just over a small rise, near a fallen tree. I carefully approached him, and saw the exit wound, and knew a perfect double lung and across the top of the heart...
I did hit higher than I thought, but it was quick, clean, and effective.
I dragged him to the trail, and made a few phone calls in joyous excitement.
Then upon the arrival of my buddy learned to gut my first deer.
We loaded him up and he is now hanging proudly in my garage until I work out butchering details.
I am very happy, and looking forward to tonight's dinner of Bacon wrapped backstraps, Mashed potatoes with butter, and whatever veggies look good in the store.
Shot details:
-within 15 yards,
- Excaliber Micro 360 pro TD. (360fps 280lb draw)
- Grim reaper mechanical broadheads, 1.5" cutting diameter
- Shot taken at 8:20am
- Deer ran approx 100 Yards after impact.
- Double lung shot, Broke rib on entry, Through and through.
Thanks for reading,
Dave.
