For our wedding anniversary, my wife got me a boar hunt in Western Quebec. We went out today and I got a 200 lb. sow, using my Marlin Guide Gun. Man, did that pig put on the brakes!:d
Anyhow, can't wait to butcher this puppy and turn it into roasts, chops, sausage and bacon!!!!!!

Was that at Ranch d'Amerique? I emailed them a while ago for a brochure, but have not heard anything back from them. I may drive up over the holidays to check it out if that is where you got your wild boar. Well done by the way.

Yes, it was. And they are great to deal with..

BTW, even though you are guaranteed your critter, it ain't shooting fish in a barrel. Them suckers can move, and they are wary as hell. I blew the first 2 shots, trying to take careful aim. Then I figured the only way I'd be able to deadify it was to snap shoot as it was running by. And boy, did that 325 gr. Leverevolution round ever stop it quick!

Well, the hog has been butchered. Just have to make sausages and cure some bacon for smoking. I had some chops this morning, and it is great meat.

Congratulations, looks like it was a lot of fun and you have some nice meat out of the trip. What were your total costs for the hunt and how far was it from Ottawa?

please let us know how all the meat tastes, some folks say WB is very stinky and hard to accept to eat because of the smell, especially the bigger ones. I wanted so bad to go WB hunting, but they are no longer around this area anymore. I wanted ham & bacon and hamburger, but sadly that ain't gonna happen around here. Congrats on your score.

The meat is great. No gamey taste or smell, and very tender. We let it hang for a week. In every case that I've seen bad game meat, it has always been due to poor field care. This was a 2 year old sow. The guy at the ranch said this was the best size in terms of meat quality. It was gutted within about 15 minutes and skinned as soon as we got home. I will let you know how the bacon and sausages turn out.

I find this pretty exciting. I did some hog hunting in Texas two years ago. I'd love to go again but the friend I was staying with is moving to Ohio. I like the thought of this hunt being available in the local area.

That looks exciting, besides me trying to look them up and everything is in french, Ithink I may do this next year 1500 for a trophy 600 otherwise. I dont get the extra stipulation of 3.50 per pound on the website? Anyways congrats on the kill!

The fee is $3.50 per pound, which works out to around $600 per boar. If you're after the trophy, it's fine, but according to the guy there, the best size for eating is under 350 lbs. My hog weighed 199 lbs whole, but I has asked for one around 170, to keep it around $600. I had only brought $670, so that's what I ended up paying. Just in passing, the meat is fantastic, well worth the premium price.

Sounds great! ill be in contact with them for sure. How much yield did you get on her after being butchered? and are these true wild boars? Or trapped and kept on the property?

Cheers!
