My First Wingmaster

Thanks for all the nice comments guys :)

I'm easily swayed by popular opinion so I'm re-evaluating the mag tube extension, lol! Besides that, a good point was raised, that I already have an 870 with the mag extension and this one can be left in its original form.

I might just pull off the mag extension off this one and save it for a future Wingmaster I might pick up one day that isn't in such nice original condition.......dammit, that means I have to get another 870 so I can use the mag extension, lol!

Hope the barrel isn't marked up from the mag clamp......will know when I get home after work.

i like the shotgun with the extension. i have a wingmaster that is set up exactly like that. i prefer the look of an 18.5 inch barrel with no mag tube extension, the 20 looks a bit long. to each their own, both are great looking configurations

Very nice!

You need a short extended choke to make the barrel and extension flush like I did with mine.

Very nice shotgun, Congrats. Looks like an original 70's wingmaster deer slayer that came with a 20" smooth bore barrel
Recoil pad seems like the only item ever changed from factory so far :)
Cheers

Thanks! With so many configurations of the 870, I'm still having trouble trying to figure which model it was. The wood is in such good shape, I'm finding it hard to believe its original. Most pictures I've seen of 1970 Wingmasters have a gloss finish on the wood, as opposed to the matt finish on mine. The Limbsaver was definitely added on recently because it's still soft and pliable. I don't own many older guns, my only other gun that wasn't recently manufactured is my 1894, that that was made in 1967. Comparatively, it's pretty beat up next to the Wingmaster, with only three years difference. However, the previous owner of the 1894 did hunt with it and it was basically a bush/truck gun.

The wood is original to the deerslayer model of that vintage. It looks like it has been stripped and refinished but they did a nice job
If you knew the exact year ( is it a 1970??? ) I can dig out the sales literature for it. I have most remington pamplets from the 50's to late 90's
Not to mention many wingmasters in all gauges ;)
Cheers

EL34/6L6.

Where did you get that choke & who makes it ? Did you have to get your barrel threaded for it or was it threaded already ? I need to get one of my barrels threaded or get a new one.

That is a Patternmaster short range choke that I found in the Bargain Cave at Cabela's.
It puts buckshot in 5" groups at 30 yds!
Barrel is a threaded 18.5" 870 Tactical. Gun is 7+1 capacity.

That definitely looks awesome, thanks for the info!
